According to French outlet RMC Sport, Olivier Giroud and Francis Coquelin have agreed contract extensions with Arsenal while Laurent Koscielny is also close to signing a new deal.

Giroud has been with Arsenal since joining the club from Montpellier in 2012 but his future in north London has been in doubt as his current contract was due to expire in 2018.

However, it looks as though Giroud has now squashed any transfer talk as RMC Sport claim that the striker has now agreed terms over a one-year extension tying him to the club until 2019.

Olivier gets plenty of stick and he has obvious deficiencies such as a lack of pace/movement which mean he isn’t a world class striker and he’s now lost his first team place to Alexis Sanchez.

However, he’s still a very useful squad player and he’s scored 87 goals and provided 37 assists in 200 appearances so he’s certainly been an excellent signing by Arsene Wenger, and I’m glad to hear he’s set to sign a new deal.

Coquelin has been on our books since 2008 but has only recent established himself in the first team and is now considered an an important part of Arsene Wenger’s starting eleven.

The 25-year-old’s current deal was due to run out in 2019 but it seems he’s earned himself an improved contract as the report suggests that Coquelin will also pen fresh terms until 2021.

I personally don’t think Coquelin should start in our strongest eleven but he too is a useful squad player who always gives everything on the pitch so it would be great to see him commit his long-term future to the club.

There could be even further good news as RMC Sport also claim that Koscielny is close to agreeing terms over a new deal that will keep him at Arsenal until 2020.

Koscielny has developed in to arguably the best centre-back in the Premier League in recent years and he’s a vital part of our team so it would be a huge boost if he was to pen a new deal soon.

However, as good as it is to hear that Giroud, Koscielny and Coquelin are going to sign new contracts, it’s safe to say we’re all waiting for Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez to sign on the dotted line….
