Team News: Wenger’s update on Cazorla, Elneny & Giroud

Arsene Wenger has offered an update on Santi Cazorla, Mohamed Elneny and Olivier Giroud ahead of Arsenal’s trip to West Ham this weekend.

We heard the devastating news yesterday that Cazorla has been ruled out for up to three months after being told he would need surgery on an on-going Achilles injury.

The injury hampered Santi throughout last season and unfortunately it’s reared it’s head again this term with the midfielder aggravating the problem during our 6-0 win over Ludogrets back in mid-October.

Unfortunately the inflammation around the ankle has refused to go away and the club confirmed on Thursday that Cazorla had been advised to undergo surgery in Sweden early next week.

Wenger says that while they don’t know the exact return date, Cazorla is expected to be out for ‘at least two months’ but it could be three before the Spanish international is available to play again.

One of Cazorla’s potential midfield replacements is Elneny but the Egyptian international will need a late fitness test to see if he’ll be in contention to face West Ham this weekend after being forced off against Southampton in midweek with sickness.

However, it looks like Giroud is still a doubt for tomorrow’s game as Wenger has said the French international could miss the trip to the London Stadium but will be available to face Basel on Tuesday.

I think Giroud will be a big miss if he isn’t passed fit to face the Hammers as they are a powerful side and we could have done with Olivier’s physical presence this weekend.

Here are some quotes from the boss:

West Ham were hammered 4-1 and will be eager to put a dent in Wenger’s epl drive.I have been saying for years the gunners style suits the counter attacking team. Remember he was beaten regularly by rf and Chelsea.
Saints conceded possession and when the ball was lost by the gunners through over elaboration they went on the attack and scored.
Wenger has been quoted as saying the gunners woudlnt be able to score with 2 hours of play.
I would like to add that as long as he emphasizezs possession with the gunners reluctant to shoot, there will be a similar outcome.
    I just hope Iam wrong.s
