According to the Mirror, Jack Wilshere has already held talks with Arsene Wenger about a new contract with Arsenal just days after being sent out on loan to Bournemouth.

Wilshere’s career at Arsenal has stalled after he endured another hugely frustrating injury-plagued campaign last year with a fractured leg restricting him to making just 3 appearances.

He recovered in time to make the England squad for this summers European Championships and made 3 appearances over in France at Euro 2016 but the midfielder was clearly not 100% fit.

Another niggling knee problem hampered his pre-season preparations and Jack played just 37 minutes of our opening three Premier League games this season which led to him being left out of Sam Allardyce’s first England squad.

The 24-year-old held talks with Wenger about his future and it was agreed he would be sent out on loan to resurrect his career and Wilshere soon join old pal Benik Afobe at Bournemouth on deadline day.

Some have suggested that with just two years remaining on his contract at the Emirates, Jack may never play for Arsenal again as many believe that this loan move spells the end for him at the club and he’ll be sold on a permanent basis next summer.

However, it appears that’s not the case as the Mirror are citing the Sun as reporting that Jack has already held talks with Arsene about signing a new long-term contract with Arsenal.

An apparent source told the newspaper that Wilshere ‘loves’ Arsenal and is ‘desperate’ to stay and prove himself in north London:

“[Jack] loves Arsenal and wants to remain and the club and the chats he has had with the club have been very positive on both sides,”

“Jack is desperate to stay and prove himself to everyone what a top-class player he is. The experience about Bournemouth should serve him well.”

Obviously we should be wary not to believe everything an unnamed ‘source’ tells the papers but I think it’s safe to say Jack does love Arsenal and would love to stay and forge a career at the Emirates.

However, this loan move is going to be pivotal in determining his future. If Jack endures another injury-plagued campaign or fails to show some decent form then I wouldn’t be surprised if he was sold next summer.

We can only wait for so long for a player to fulfill their potential and as much as we all want Wilshere to succeed at AFC, there is no room for sentiment.

Let’s just hope he steers clear of injury, smashes it on the south coast and comes back to Arsenal reborn in 12 months time.
