Odds slashed on Sturridge joining Arsenal amid rumours of late move

By on August 31, 2016

According to the Mirror, the odds of Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge joining Arsenal have been slashed following fresh speculation online that he could be set for a late move.

Sturridge has fallen out-of-favour under Jurgen Klopp with the Liverpool boss preferring Divock Origi and Roberto Firmino through the middle so far this season.

The 26-year-old was distinctly unimpressed after Klopp opted to bring on Origi and leave him on the bench during Liverpool’s 1-1 draw at Spurs last weekend.

Klopp clearly doesn’t think he can rely on Sturridge due to his history of injury problems and speculation is intensifying that he could be on the move over the coming hours with Arsenal touted as a possible destination.

The Mirror claim that the odds of Sturridge making a deadline day move to the Emirates have tumbled with this movement coinciding with a frenzy of speculation on Twitter that the England international could be heading for Arsenal.

For those of you who aren’t on Twitter, @AFCCamden is a well known Gooner who has proven over the years to have connections within the club and he’s been keeping fans up-to-date with transfer news all summer.

A short time ago he Tweeted to say that Arsenal were considering a last gasp move for a Premier League player who he first linked to the club two weeks ago.

@AFCCamden refused to name the player in question but did confirm he was a striker leading to excited Arsenal fans speculating that we were set to swoop for Sturridge.

Arsene Wenger signed Lucas Perez just yesterday but the Spaniard is also capable of playing out on the wing so with the likes of Serge Gnabry and Jack Wilshere set to leave the club today, perhaps the boss is looking to bring in another forward before the window shuts?

I would certainly welcome one and Sturridge would be an excellent signing….if we could keep him fit. The problem is we don’t exactly have a great track record of keeping injury-prone players away from the treatment room so any move for the Liverpool man would be a risk.

But it’s important to remember these are just rumours at this stage and there is no concrete information suggesting we are in for Sturridge, so we’ll just have to wait and see what the coming hours bring….
