Arsenal agreed personal terms with striker ahead of £35m bid

By on August 3, 2016

According to reports in France, Arsenal have agreed personal terms with Alexandre Lacazette and Arsene Wenger will now submit an improved offer to Lyon for the striker.

Arsene Wenger is desperately trying to bring in a new striker to offer competition for Olivier Giroud this season and Lacazette has emerged as the most likely target after we missed out on the likes of Jamie Vardy, Alvaro Morata and Gonzalo Higuain.

Lyon confirmed last week that they had knocked back our opening £29.3m bid with president Jean Michel Aulas insisting the striker would not be sold this summer at any price as he was regarded as indispensable.

However, this was taken as nothing more than a negotiating tactic and that assumption was confirmed when Lyon boss Bruno Genesio admitted earlier this week that the 25-year-old would be sold if the right offer was put on the table.

And now the Express are citing French outlet Le10 Sport as saying that Arsenal have agreed personal terms with Lacazette and Wenger will now table an improved offer by the end of this week.

The report seems to support what the Telegraph say as the newspaper claims that Arsenal are set to test Lyon’s resolve with a fresh £35m offer – but it remains to be seen whether Lyon will accept as they are understood to want closer to £40m.

Let’s hope we can get a deal agreed as Lacazette would be a great signing and he’d give us something different to Giroud up front. The Lyon ace is fast, makes excellent runs and is a decent goal-scorer having netted 54 times in his last two seasons.

I still don’t think he’s an ‘elite’ striker but he’s the most realistic target we can buy this summer and he’d strengthen our striking options, which is the main thing.
