Arsenal may pull-out of Vardy deal after buyout clause rose to £30m

By on June 17, 2016

There has been an interesting update from Gianluca Di Marzio on Arsenal’s pursuit of Jamie Vardy with the Italian journalist claiming we could be about to pull out of the deal because his buyout clause has now risen to £30m.

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last three weeks, you’ll know by now that Arsenal have been trying to sign Vardy from Leicester City this summer.

The Daily Mail claimed a couple of weeks ago that we’d agreed to trigger his £20m buyout clause and Vardy had verbally agreed personal terms over a three-year deal worth around £120,000-a-week after speaking with Arsene Wenger.

However, the deal stalled after Leicester offered him an improved contract and Vardy flew-out to France with the England squad to mull over his future during Euro 2016.

Sky Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio claims that this delay is set to cost Arsenal £10m as he says that Vardy’s £20m release clause was only active until June 3rd, after which point the figure has risen to £30m.

Di Marzio goes on to claim that this was the reason Wenger wanted to tie the deal up so quickly before Vardy flew out to the Euro’s and the Arsenal boss is now considering pulling out of the deal as he’s reluctant to pay the new £30m price tag.

It’s difficult to know what to make of this report as June 3rd has always been highlighted as a key date throughout this saga so it’s certainly believable that Vardy’s clause may have risen.

However, there is some contention over what figure Arsenal would need to pay. Di Marzio seems to think we’ll have to pay the new £30m clause, but we put our offer on the table while the release fee was still £20m so we technically activated his clause before June 3rd.

Foxes boss Claudio Ranieri confirmed earlier this week that we’d triggered Vardy’s clause and said the ball was now in the striker’s court to decide over the move, and he made no reference to Arsenal now having to up their bid, so I don’t think there is an issue here.

We’ve triggered the clause at £20m so the new figure after that point is irrelevant. I’m sure that will be the case as Wenger is highly unlikely to pay £30m for a player who’ll turn 30 in less than 6 months time.

According to the BBC he has ‘signed’ for Arsenal. However if he expects Arsenal to wait for him he will be sorely mistaken.
He may have taken the epl by storm last season but personally I think he is a one season wonder.
I maybe wrong but Wenger will better off getting some guys who are better than him.

If Vardy stays at Leicester he will be insignificant, he would be the worlds first to repeat the feat twice in a row, his best option “if he wants to improve” would be to go to another club where he would be freshened by different players, and possibly learn to stretch his career further than another year. As for money, he gets well paid anywhere. there again he may be just living for the moment, then why move ? he’s played for England, he’s won the league, that may be enough.

I’m a Leicester fan and ffs, Arsenal be ambitious and smart. Reports suggest Wenger is signing the entire Leicester squad at this rate. Vardy won’t suit your style of play; may I suggest Aubameyang, Benzema, Lukaku, Cavani – these are players you can approach which Leicester has no chance of signing and will suit your style of play. Heck, Leicester are even trying to get Armed Musa to do better in Vardy’s position; why don’t you look at him too? Vardy will scores at Leicester, I don’t think he will be beneficial to Arsenal in any way unless Wenger plans a 80 min sub for Vardy to come on and take advantage of tired legs. But even then, you’ve got Walcott who’s probably better than Vardy. It frustrates me how long this has gone. Leave Vardy and go for someone world class, because you’re in a position to do so.

We have seen vardy get better in each of his 4 seasons with us. Truth is..he is a champion! How many gunners players can say that? The foxes are going to go on and on. The champions league and eclipsing cloughies forest is a deep seated passion.
The Thai billionaire owners will bankroll the club.
Why on earth would he want to join a bunch of runners up? For gods sake he would have to move to that appalling place with tubes and millions of people (the dreaded smoke). Can anyone think iof a worse existence? Thats all it would be…London is the dregs!
Get over it gunners…you and that city you exist in is the pits.,
