[Photo] BBC claim Jamie Vardy is an Arsenal player

The BBC live feed of England’s 2-1 win over Wales this afternoon sent Twitter in to meltdown after claiming that Jamie Vardy is an Arsenal player.

Vardy came off the bench to make himself a national hero having scored a vital equaliser shortly after half-time before Daniel Sturridge won it for England with a stoppage time winner to put the Three Lions on the verge of qualification to the knockout stages of Euro 2016.

However, it was the BBC’s coverage of the game that was a talking point for many Gooners on social media as the respected news outlet claimed that Vardy was an Arsenal player when reporting his goal in the 56th minute.

Eagle eyed viewers took a screenshot and as you can see from the snap below, the BBC said ‘Arsenal’s Jamie Vardy’ scored the equaliser for England:

So. Was this an innocent mistake from an intern? Or do the BBC know something we don’t? The chances are it was just a silly error but that hasn’t stopped fans from speculation on Twitter.

As most of you should know by now, as it’s been filling the papers for weeks, Vardy’s future is up in the air after we agreed to meet his £20m release clause earlier this month and the Daily Mail claim the striker agreed terms over a three-year deal following talks with Arsene Wenger.

However, he flew out to France with the England squad without completing his move as he decided to mull over his future during the Euro’s after Leicester had made a last ditch attempt to keep him with an improved contract offer.

With fans from both Arsenal and Leicester eagerly awaiting news over this proposed deal, it’s easy to understand why people could get carried away, but I think the BBC’s error was just a mistake and we shouldn’t look too much in to it.

We’ll probably have to wait a little while longer before we find out where Vardy will be playing next season….

    And the BBC claim that the new Top Gear is good…Shows how bad they are at judging anything.
