Arsenal table £25m bid for 17-goal winger, player keen on move

By on June 7, 2016

According to Italian journalist Tandredi Palmeri, Arsenal have tabled an opening £25m (€32m) offer to Leicester City for Riyah Mahrez after holding several meetings with his agent.

We’ve been strongly linked with a move for Mahrez in recent weeks after watching him fire Leicester to a shock Premier League title last season with his 17 goals and 10 assists seeing him named as the PFA Player of the Year.

ESPN reported just yesterday that while we do still hold an interest in Mahrez, Arsene Wenger’s priority was to try and land Borussia Dortmund attacker Henrikh Mkhitaryan.

However, it seems either that information is false, a deal for Mkhitaryan is off or Wenger is hedging his bets, as Palmeri – who works for BeIN Sports and Gazzetta dello Sport – has claimed today that we’ve submitted a £25m bid for Mahrez.

The well-known Italian journalist reported via Twitter that Arsenal made the offer after holding extensive talks with the Algerian international’s agents and the winger made it clear he was keen on making the move to North London.

Now obviously there is a lot of speculation flying about these days and we should take all reports with a pinch of salt but I’d absolutely love to see us sign Mahrez this summer as he was outstanding for the Foxes last season.

His arrival would almost certainly see Theo Walcott leave after the England international lost his place last season, and although I’d be sad to see Theo go, signing Mahrez as a replacement would ease the pain.

Arsenal handed boost in pursuit of 23-goal attacker

The news comes as we await Jamie Vardy’s decision over whether he’ll be making a £20m move to Arsenal so it looks as though we’re trying to sign two of Leicester’s best players from last season.

Strengthen our squad whilst weakening the champions….sensible tactic Arsene! Let’s hope we can pull off this double swoop.
