Arsenal bid £28m for Serie A striker, Wenger wants deal done soon

By on May 26, 2016

The Sun are reporting today that Arsenal have finally made their move for Alvaro Morata after submitting an opening £28m bid for the Juventus striker.

Morata has been strongly linked with a move to the Emirates in recent months as Arsene Wenger looks to sign a striker after losing Danny Welbeck for the majority of next season.

The Spanish international joined Juventus from Real Madrid in 2014 and has helped the Old Lady win consecutive Serie A titles and reach the final of the 2014/15 Champions League during his two years at the club.

However, the Mirror are one of several media outlets who claim that Madrid have decided to activate a £23m buyback clause inserted in to Morata’s contract and then immediately sell the striker on at a profit.

Arsenal have been touted as favourites to sign the 23-year-old and it looks like we’ve now made our interest official with the Sun claiming that we’ve tabled an opening £28m bid.

The newspaper says that Wenger is keen to get a deal wrapped-up quickly in order to have Morata on board before the start of Euro 2016 and expects to have a response to our initial bid next week after the Champions League final.

However, it looks like we might have to increase our offer as the Sun suggest that Madrid are expected to knock back our bid and demand £38m for the Spaniard’s signature.

Morata is a huge talent and I’d certainly welcome him to Arsenal this summer, but for £38m? I’m not convinced he’s the best choice for that sort of money. He only scored 8 Serie A goals last season and has never  scored more than 15 goals in all competition in ANY season so far in his senior career.

Is he the prolific goalscorer we’ve all been crying out for? Certainly not. Not yet anyway. So I think he’d be a risky signing, especially for £38m. For that kind of money I’d be expecting guaranteed goals. I’d rather we paid a little bit more and got someone like Higuain or Benzema – who could be available if Madrid land Aubameyang.

We have to stop looking at the so-called star strikers and look at the next generation. With Cavani 29 and Higuain and Benzema turning 29 in April, we need to look at the 23-25 year olds who will take on the mantle as the best striker in Europe. With Ibrahimovic coming to his last big contract.. Lewandowski is 28 soon, Ronaldo 31, Messi 29 next month.. pretty soon the clubs that own these players will want the next generation and it would be in our interest to have hold of one before they all start their spending sprees in 3 years time..

Your comment is not relevant. Morata is 23 years old, Xhaka is 23 years old. Arsenal have not recently showed interest in any of the players you mentioned.

Also, what has Benzema done recently? Are we paying for the name?
Higuian would need to adjust to the premier league, he and we haven’t got time for that!

i would av preferred we go for Aubameyang. He is young and proven. His style also suits our play. he has pace, skills, very tricky, good in the air can pass can retain possessions.

perhaps i am over hyping this guy or it’s just my personal love for him, but hey guys this guy is a goal poacher.

someone like in the games against: Southampton, Sunderland & Swansea would have given us 2goals each where Ozil was busy creating all the assists of this world

Supporters of Arsenal should not be worried, you have a good manager on Wenger, he is a reasonable person, who always have SOUND IN MIND, before paying the required amount, he will not sign the young man for that kind of money, even 28 million pounds, Wenger will not pay it, he might agree on 18 to 20 million. The guy is still learning, he has never put his name on MAP as a top striker, he managed to score 8 goals out of 34 games, the statistics tells us what he can do. So for that kind of money, Wenger will prefer to look somewhere else, if they do not reduce the price money. What people should know, Wenger is an Economist and we all know how most of the Economists does when it comes to finance, they always want to benefit from any kind of business they make a huge deal. So for people to think Wenger will just pay for someone with no good record of scoring, is a wishful thinking. Yes Morata is a good striker but he cannot cost that much at the moment, because of his scoring record. He still have to work hard to put his name of the MAP.
