Giroud out, Welbeck starts in 4-2-3-1: My Arsenal XI To Face Spurs

Danny Welbeck

It’s make or break time for Arsenal as we head to White Hart Lane on Saturday for possibly the most important North London derby in recent memory….this is the team I’d like to see Arsene Wenger go with.

Goalkeeper: Ospina

Once again the injury gods have deserted us as Petr Cech aggravated a calf injury against Swansea and has been ruled out of this game. Therefore, Ospina has to start in goal.

Defence: Bellerin, Mertesacker, Gabriel, Monreal

In a huge double blow, Laurent Koscielny has also been ruled out with a calf problem so we’re going to have to stick with Gabriel alongside Per Mertesacker at the back. I thought they did alright against Swansea but they’re going to have to be rock solid if we’re to get a result at Spurs.

Hector Bellerin and Nacho Monreal are our first choice full-backs and there’s no reason to change things against Tottenham.

Midfield: Ramsey, Coquelin

Once again, central midfield was a huge problem against Swansea. I’ve been calling for Wenger to mix things up and bring Elneny in to the team but I’m not sure that’s such a great idea against Spurs. It’s too big an occasion to take such a risk and the Egyptian seems like a bit of a hot-head, and the last thing we need is him letting the atmosphere get the better of him and picking up silly cards.

Therefore, with Cazorla and Wilshere still injured, we have little choice but to start the out-of-form Ramsey alongside Coquelin again on Saturday.

Attack: Campbell, Ozil, Sanchez

Joel Campbell was excellent against Swansea and was hugely unfortunate to be taken off. He was a real threat and took his goal well so deserves to start ahead of Theo Walcott.

Alexis Sanchez was in slightly better form last night and was unlucky not to score at least once after hitting the woodwork twice. I really don’t think we should be leaving out a player of his ability for such a huge game as he’s got the potential to be a match winner, so I’d stick with him and Mesut Ozil.

Striker: Welbeck

Olivier Giroud was wasteful once again in front of goal against Swansea and I’d definitely go with Danny Welbeck through the middle. He’s done more in two appearances than Giroud has in his last 10.

This would be my line-up:

I still think we’re going to struggle in midfield as Ramsey just isn’t suited to the deep lying playmaker role and as a result, we’re struggling to move the ball quickly from defence to attack.

Hopefully the boys can do something special as we have to get a win to move level with Spurs and keep ourselves in the title race. A third consecutive league defeat would all-but end our hopes for another season.

Time to step-up boys…..

The thing that is wrong with Ramsey is that he has not got the passing ability of Cazorla and leaves his position to often which leaves Coquelin wide open.I would play Elneny in there with Coquelin and give it a go.

Elneny has played against Spurs in the Europa league and done very well. Here’s the team I’d pick.
    Ospina
    Bellerin Mert Gabriel Monreal
    Elneny Coqueline
    Campbell Ozil Sanchez
    Welbeck

Sanchez and Campbell tend to track back which will be needed against Tottenhams full backs. I think Elneny may stay closer to Coquelin than Ramsey ever does. Let’s hope if Welbeck starts, he can exploit the space down the sides of Tottenhams centre backs, left by their marauding full backs.

That line up, save for Koscielny in for Mertesacker, is the one I wished to see against Barcelona. Too late now, so let’s hope it works out against the spuds.
