Preview: Liverpool v Arsenal, Team News, Line-Up & Prediction

Arsenal can tighten their grip at the top of the table when we take on Liverpool at Anfield this evening.

We head into the game holding a two point lead over second-placed Leicester City and with the Foxes facing a tough away game at Spurs, we can put some distance between us and the chasing pack with a win at Anfield.

Obviously it’s going to be a tricky game for us too as Liverpool will no doubt be right up for this one but we are in decent form so should be confident of getting a positive result.

The 3-1 comeback win over Sunderland in the FA Cup on Saturday made it three wins on the bounce following our disaster at Southampton on Boxing Day so hopefully we can continue that run this evening.

Team News

Unfortunately Alexis Sanchez has been ruled out of the trip to Merseyside after failing to prove his fitness following a hamstring injury that he picked up in late November. The Chilean super-star could make his return against Stoke at the weekend but this game has come too soon.

Arsene is expected to recall a number of players to the starting eleven after resting the likes of Mesut Ozil, Aaron Ramsey, Nacho Monreal, Mathieu Flamini and Per Mertesacker at the weekend.

Tomas Rosicky is back in full training but he’s still short of match fitness so isn’t available yet while David Ospina will face a late fitness test on a groin injury.

Mikel Arteta is back in the squad but Jack Wilshere, Santi Cazorla, Francis Coquelin and Danny Welbeck all remain sidelined.

Liverpool have their own injury concerns to worry about with Dejan Lovren, Philippe Coutinho, Divock Origi, Martin Skrtel and Daniel Sturridge all out of the game.

However, Kolo Toure, Jordon Ibe, James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Mamadou Sakho are set to return while Steven Caulker could make his debut after completing a loan move from QPR.

Preferred line-up

The team pretty-much picks itself at the minute with only two areas really open for debate. Many feel Gabriel should keep his place but I think we should go with the tried and tested partnership of Koscielny and Mertesacker for this one.

I’d also pick Joel Campbell ahead of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain as the Costa Rican has been excellent in recent weeks.

Prediction

Liverpool have been hugely inconsistent this season so it’s difficult to know what to expect tonight. I personally think Klopp will have his players right up for this game but I also think we have more quality than them. Hopefully Ozil can find the space to work his magic and if he can, I’m am backing the boys to edge it 2-1.
