Report: Arsenal agree deal to sign international striker in January

According to Russian outlet Izvestia, Arsenal have agreed a deal worth in the region of £4.3m to sign Russian international striker  Aleksandr Kokorin in January.

Arsene Wenger has money to burn after failing to sign a single outfield player in the summer window and another striker is believed to be a priority for the Frenchman.

It appears the boss has set his sights on Russian international Aleksandr Kokorin with reports in the players homeland claiming we’ve now agreed terms with Dynamo Moscow to sign the player for just £4.3m in January.

The 24-year-old striker is out of contract in June so Moscow are being forced to cash-in this winter but Arsene could still decide to wait and snap him up for nothing in the summer.

The report claims that Kokorin has already agreed personal terms over a move to North London so it will just come down to whether the boss feels we need him enough for the second half of the season or not.

It’s difficult to know what to make of these reports but Kokorin has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal for a year now and speculation in the summer suggested we’d held negotiations with Moscow back in August, so there could be some foundation in these latest stories.

I certainly think we could do with another out-and-out striker but with Arsene comparing Giroud to the likes of Lewandowski and Aguero in his press conference yesterday, I’m not convinced we’re going to spend big on another front-man any time soon.

Therefore, I wouldn’t be surprised if the boss has decided to bring in another body to compete with Giroud and not someone who’d expect to start every week, and with Kokorin available at a cut-price, he could be a realistic target.

Whether he’s good enough to cut it in the Premier League remains to be seen but he is a full Russian international and has bags of ability, so he could be worth a punt.

    Arsenal have Welbeck,Sanchez,Giroud and Campbel. Why get another striker when the focus shd be on strengthening the md.
    I don’t know the logic.
    NU were within winning the epl had they bought a defender.Keegan
    whose mantra is attacking soccer opted for a striker.He said you score one,I will score two.Sadly his defence was exposed and he was made to pay the price.
    Hopefully this scenario doesnt come back to haunt Wenger.
