Wenger confirms injured duo should return for key Arsenal game
Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Theo Walcottt should be back in contention for our crunch Champions League clash with Olympiacos.
The Ox has been out for over a month since suffering a hamstring injury during our disappointing loss at Sheffield Wednesday in October.
The boss revealed on Monday that the midfielder was close to making his comeback and has a chance to be in the squad for Sunday’s trip to Norwich, meaning he should certainly be available when we travel to Greece in two weeks time.
Walcott was also injured during the Capital One Cup loss at Hillsborough last month but he needs a little more time to recover meaning he’ll miss the upcoming games against Norwich and Sunderland but could then return for the key clash at Olympiacos.
Here is what Arsene told Arsenal.com:
on who will be back for the game against Olympiacos…
For Olympiacos, apart from tonight, Oxalde-Chamberlain will certainly be back while Theo Walcott has a chance.
It’s going to be a major boost to have Oxlade-Chamberlain and Walcott back as we’ve seen our attacking options decimated by injury in recent weeks.
Alexis Sanchez needs a rest while Olivier Giroud looks dead on his feet, so it will be a welcome relief when Arsene is able to rotate his attacking players once again.
The Olympiacos game is now a decider as we know following last night’s results that we need to win by two clear goals or by 3-2, 4-3, etc, in order to qualify for the last 16 of the Champions League.
