Arsenal Eye €30m Swoop For La Liga Midfielder, Player Keen On Move

According to the Telegraph, Arsenal are considering triggering the €30m buy-out clause in Grzegorz Krychowiak’s contract as Arsene Wenger looks to bring in another defensive midfielder.

All the talk at the start of the summer was about the boss signing another holding midfielder but it appeared he may be ready to go with his current options after turning down the chance to sign the likes of Morgan Schneiderlin, Arturo Vidal and Geoffrey Kondogbia.

However, the Telegraph claim today that Arsene IS still on the look-out for a player to compete with Francis Coquelin and is now weighing-up a swoop for Krychowiak.

The newspaper says that we had scouts in the stands last night to watch the Polish international in action as Sevilla lost a nine-goal thriller to Barcelona in the European Super Cup final.

Krychowiak has a buy-out clause worth €30m written into his contract – which equates to around £21.3m – and the Telegraph seem to think Arsene is now giving serious thought to meeting that clause after tracking the midfielder for over 18 months.

The 25-year-old only moved to Sevilla last summer and helped the club win the Europa League in his debut season, but the paper claims he’d be keen on the move if Arsenal do decide to trigger his buy-out clause.

Krychowiak is an out-and-out defensive midfielder who’s excellent in the air and tough in the tackle so he’d certainly add a bit of ‘bite’ to our midfield if he did make the move to North London.

I’ve said for several weeks that we desperately need another player to offer depth behind Coquelin and Krychowiak would be a solid signing, but if we’re going to pay almost £22m for him wouldn’t we have been better just to pay the extra £3m-£4m and got Schneiderlin when we had the chance?

The Frenchman has been outstanding for Southampton over the past two years and you can’t underestimate how important experience in the Premier League is, so I’d personally have preferred us to go for Schneiderlin earlier in the summer.

However, that ship has sailed and I’m just relieved that the papers feel we are still looking to sign a defensive midfielder before the transfer window shuts. If Wenger thinks Krychowiak is the right man for the job, then so be it….
