World Cup Winner Fuels Arsenal Move Rumours

By on August 5, 2015

Mario Gotze has fuelled speculation he could be on the move to Arsenal after confirming his strained relationship with boss Pep Guardiola is making life difficult at Bayern Munich.

The German attacker has long been linked with a move to the Emirates and the rumours intensified again this summer after his agent hit out at Guardiola for ‘destroying’ the player’s confidence by keeping him on the bench and playing him out of position.

The Mirror then reported last month that Arsene Wenger was lining-up a move for the 23-year-old and Gotze himself set tongues wagging after randomly following Kieran Gibbs on Instagram.

The former Borussia Dortmund playmaker has now fuelled the flames even more after admitting that his poor relationship with Guardiola is making life difficult at the Allianz Arena, and Gotze has hinted that he may be forced to consider his future if the Spanish boss doesn’t improve their working relationship soon.

Speaking after the Audi Cup last night, he’s quoted as saying by the Express:

“The last two years were definitely not very simple, we’ll see what happens.

“It will work out if Guardiola talks to me more often. I’m going to let everything come to me. Anything beyond that, we’ll see.”

It’s clear Gotze isn’t happy with life under Guardiola but we’ll have to wait and see whether the tension will be enough to force him to look for a move.

Guardiola is being tipped to join Manchester City next summer so Gotze may decide just to stick it out for another year and hope things improve under whoever comes in as manager next summer.

However, if he does push for a move over the coming weeks I’d love to see us make a move for him. He’s not the out-and-out striker I think we need but if a player of Gotze’s quality is available, we shouldn’t pass up the opportunity.

He can play anywhere across the attacking positions and even up front as a false 9, so he’d give Wenger plenty of options in the final third, and I don’t think he’s been given the chance to prove himself fully at Bayern.  Alongside the likes of Ozil and Sanchez, he could flourish at Arsenal.
