Arsenal Eye Shock Swoop On Tottenham, Player ‘Flattered’ By Interest

By on June 4, 2015

According to the Telegraph, Arsenal are eyeing a shock move for Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Nabil Bentaleb – who has admitted he’s growing ‘tired’ of contract negotiations and is ‘flattered’ by the interest being  shown in him.

Arsene Wenger is on the look out for another holding midfielder this summer and we’ve been linked with names like Morgan Schneiderlin, Arturo Vidal and Geoffrey Kondogbia in recent weeks.

However, the Telegraph claim that we’ve joined the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus in showing an interest in Bentaleb having apparently scouted him throughout last season.

The 20-year-old was given his debut by Tim Sherwood in December 2013 and has gone on to cement his place in the Tottenham midfield along side Ryan Mason, and made 35 appearances in all competitions last season.

While the likes of Mason and Harry Kane have been rewarded with new contracts, Bentaleb is yet to agree terms over a new deal and has now told the papers that he’s growing ‘tired’ after nine months of negotiations.

The youngster feels he deserves to be rewarded for the improvements he’s made over the past year and says he’s ‘flattered’ by the interest being shown in him from Champions League clubs.

Bentaleb said:

“I play every game like it is my last game. I give everything on the pitch. I’ve been working really hard and it’s normal for me to want to get rewarded. We’ve been negotiating for nearly nine months now, since September, and it’s getting really long and, of course, I’m getting a little bit tired of it.

“But I still work hard. It doesn’t change how hard I work. I will still be the same person. But sometimes it is annoying when you don’t feel treated as you should be. This season was a really good season for me and I’ve had some interest from big clubs, from Champions League clubs. I’m really flattered.

“I feel I’ve grown this season. I’ve shown more maturity and more confidence, even more desire. I fight even more. If right now I was still at the same level that I was a year ago there would be a problem.”

The lad clearly wants to be playing for a big club in the Champions League, and who can blame him. Playing on Thursday night’s must be a pain in the arse.

Bentaleb is a hard worker but I don’t think he has the all-round ability to play for Arsenal. He’d be a solid back-up to Coquelin but obviously I’d rather we focussed our attention on the likes of Schneiderlin, Vidal or Kondogbia – who’d actually improve our first team.

I dont know what all the fuss is sbout, it’s never going to happen. The days of Daniel Levy selling or allowing Spurs better players especially the promising younger players to leave the club to a competitor in the EPL, are long gone. Remember the Luka Modic to Chelsea “a foregone conclusion” rubbish the press were churning out on a daily basis. Levy knows the backlash he will undoubtedly receive if he were to ever contemplate it. This smells of player and his agent using the press to get a better contract and anyone with an ounce of sense would realise this too. Sure, talks are protracted if indeed they were started back in September but has anyone made any comment on how long Bentaleb has remaining on his current contract? It’s plain to see that this young player has a very bright future, a real class act who belies his age (20) and will only get better for Spurs. The fact that the press and various assortment of blogs are scratching for anything anti Spurs is yet another testament that silly season is upon us.
