Wenger Confirms Ramsey & Walcott Injury Boost + Update On Ozil

Arsene Wenger has given an update on the fitness of Theo Walcott, Aaron Ramsey, Mikel Arteta, Serge Gnabry and he also had his say on the Mesut Ozil injury situation.

The German FA revealed on Wednesday that Ozil had undergone an MRI scan in Munich after complaining of pain in his knee.

The results revealed that the 25-year-old had suffered a partial tear to his left knee ligament and would be on the sidelines for up to 12 weeks.

Arsenal refused to confirm the diagnosis and Arsene has now confirmed that he will follow the recommendations of our own specialists regarding Ozil’s recovery time, but the clubs website does state that we’re likely to be without him for at least 2 months.

Speaking to Arsenal.com, Arsene said:

“When he arrived with the German national team, they didn’t think it was a lot at the start,” the manager said. “He was supposed to practice on Wednesday but, in the end, he said that wasn’t possible for him.

“Then he had a scan and it was bad news. We have our own specialist giving us his opinion after reading the scan and examining Mesut. We will follow our own recommendations.”

Arsene also gave the latest on the fitness of Walcott and confirmed the attacker is not far away having returned to full training this week after over nine months on the sidelines with a knee injury.

Gnabry is also on the cusp of being back in contention after being out for several months while Arteta could return to training late next week as he recovers from a calf problem.

There is also some positive news on Ramsey with the boss revealing that the Welshman should be back in training next Friday, which is contrary to some newspaper reports that maintain he is out for much longer than Arsenal are claiming.

Arsene continued:

“Theo is not too far away now,” said Wenger. “Serge has been out for a long, long time and Theo has also been out for nine months, so it’s good to see them back. They’ve worked very hard and they’re very dedicated. They are back in the group on a daily basis and that’s very good news.

“For Ramsey it’s day 13 today and I think it will be day 21 before he is back into training. Arteta may be back with the group late next week.”

The Hull City game next weekend should come a little too soon for the likes of Ramsey and Arteta if they only return to training on Thursday/Friday while Walcott is unlikely to be thrown straight back into Premier League action without a run-out for the under-21’s.

However, while it’s disappointing Ozil is set for a spell out, it will be a big boost to get Rambo, Arteta and Walcott back over the next couple of weeks.
