RATINGS: Arsenal 4-1 Galatasaray: Welbeck Outstanding

By on October 1, 2014

Danny Welbeck

Arsenal put in a superb performance to beat Galatasaray 4-1 at the Emirates on Wednesday night with Danny Welbeck bagging a stunning hat-trick.

Here are my ratings:

Szczesny 5/10 – Very little to do until he stupidly got himself sent off. Must improve his concentration levels.

Chambers 7/10 – Battled hard at right-back. Caught out of position a couple of times but overall very solid.

Mertesacker 7/10 – Pretty comfortable evening for the BFG.

Koscielny 7.5/10 – Made a couple of excellent interceptions and brought the ball out of defence well.

Gibbs 7/10 – Another good game from Gibbsy. Never stopped getting up and down the wing.

Flamini 7/10 – Much-improved display from Mathieu. He got his compulsory booking for a rash tackle but otherwise very good.

The Ox 8/10 – His powerful running caused the visitors all sorts of problems. Superb.

Cazorla 7.5/10 – Played more centrally and put in a great display. Linked up well with those around him. Unfortunate not to score late on.

Sanchez 8.5/10 – Lovely assist for Welbeck’s first and took his goal well. Part of an attack that Galatasaray couldn’t handle.

Ozil 8/10 – Superb assist for the Sanchez goal and showed his class in the final third with several key passes.

Welbeck 9/10 – Stunning hat-trick in what was an awesome all-round display. Pace, power, clinical finishing…he has the lot.

Subs:

Ospina 7.5/10 – Made some impressive stops after replacing Szczesny. His time to shine?

Rosicky 7/10 – Slotted seamlessly into midfield.

Wilshere 7/10 – Some lovely touches and almost got an assist for Cazorla.

A much needed performance and a vital three points in the bag. A great night all round. Let’s hope we take this form into Chelsea on Sunday!

ah the latest soundbite “concentration levels” to wrongly have a go at Szczesny, it seems all it takes is for one pundit to say something and it flows across blog world. Szczesny was a fraction late, under the rules a penalty and sending off, nothing more nothing less, not some big error of judgement form him and certainly nothing to do with concentration levels.

the only thing that needs asking about the penalty was why was Koscielny so far out of position to let the forward in, and the answer is he went charging out the field with the ball, gave it to Alexis who lost it, and Kos had not got back by the time the ball was played into the place and man Kos should have been marking,

but its easier to blame the latest scapegoat for Arsenal followers, Szczesny, what did people want him to do, not make a challenge, not try to get to the ball,

it would have been nice to hear the blame he would have gotten if he had stayed on his line and just let them score.
