Revealed: The Reason Alexis Sanchez Was Dropped vs Spurs & Villa

By on September 30, 2014

Many Arsenal fans were left scratching their heads in frustration when Arsene Wenger decided to leave Alex Sanchez out of the starting eleven to face Tottenham on Saturday.

The Chilean has enjoyed an impressive start to life in North London and had just scored scored a worldy free-kick against Southampton – which was his fourth goal in five games – with that strike following another stunning goal against Man City a couple of weeks ago.

However, Arsene decided to keep him on the bench with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain preferred on the right wing when Spurs came to the Emirates at the weekend.

This was just a week after Sanchez was also left on the bench away at Aston Villa. That decision was a little more understandable, but it was certainly a strange call to leave our £32m signing on the subs bench against our North London rivals.

Some felt the boss had rested him ahead of the Galatarasay game while others speculated it was for ‘tactical’ reasons, but according to Goal the reason Sanchez didn’t start against Villa or Spurs is because Arsene Wenger believes he holds on to the ball too long and slows down our play.

The report suggests that Arsene isn’t happy with how Sanchez disrupts our passing game by lingering on the ball for too long, and there is also a concern that he is losing possession too often when receiving the ball on the half-way line with his back to goal which is resulting in dangerous opportunities for the opposition.

Goal claim that Arsene has decided to restrict Sanchez’s game-time until he and his coaching staff have had time to drill our style of play into him on the training pitch.

I must admit, there are times when Sanchez has dwelt on the ball for too long when he should have passed or lost possession in a dangerous position, but I still don’t think those are reasons to leave a world class talent like him out of such a big game.

He’s a match winner. He can pull something special out the bag, as he showed against City and Southampton, so he should have started against Spurs if you ask me.

I do understand that Arsene has concerns that he’s not quite adapted to our system yet, but that’s to be expected. You could argue that Ozil’s still hasn’t adapted to our style of play but Arsene hasn’t dropped him.

The upcoming international break isn’t going to help things as Sanchez will go off with Chile for 10 days after Sunday’s clash with Chelsea which will delay his adaptation period further, but let’s hope he can settle in soon as he is one hell of a talent and is going to be star for the club. No doubt about it.

You might think that player costing £35m might grasp what was needed of him a little sooner particularly as he was heralded as world class. Yet again Wenger seems to have bought a player not needed and another like ozil that takes the place of payers better suited to the premiership, and then there’s welbeck another crazy signing. Wenger has lost the plot and his complete arrogance will ensure another disappointing season.

lol you idiot!! What are you on about? Sanchez knows exactly what to do.. get involved, create and score goals! Which is exactly what he has been doing!! Sanchez has been great!! 4 goals in 5 games or whatever! Played for Barca! The guy is world class and will become our Saurez! When he settles!!
Ozil is world class and will be one of the greatest ever Arsenal players.. just because he doesn’t track back and run about tackling everyone DOES NOT mean he is a bad player! Just means he is a pure offensive player! A Proper no.10!! Others around him are meant to do all the tackling, Ozil is meant to create chances! He is one of the top players in the world with assists! You are just ignorant and believe everything you read in the papers!!
I’m not sure how old you are (do sound like a immature glory supporting 15yo who knows nothing about football/Arsenal!) but I bet you moaned about Bergkamp being ‘rubbish’ when he first joined Arsenal! Or even Henry? Pires?? Every one of those legends took 6months to a year/year and a half to settle and show their true class!!! Yet you and other like you would’ve sold Henry, Pires, Bergkamp asap!!! PATHETIC!!!
Then you moan about Welbeck!! Haha he is English, young, hungry and has ability! You don’t play for United and England if you don’t have talent!! Arsenal/Wenger are giving him a chance to play as a striker for once and yes he’s missed a few chances but he is getting in the right positions and just needs a little more confidence and to score a few more goals and then he can really take off and start scoring every week!!
So basically you hate our 2 genuine world class players, you hate our new signing, you hate our legendary manager… is there anything you do like about The Arsenal?? I think you need to start ‘following’ a different team mate? I would have said supporting but I don’t think you know the meaning of SUPPORTING! Chelsea seem like a perfect team for you?? They are a great team for glory supporters! Think about all those big name signing they buy! You’d be in heaven mate!

did you see anywhere that I knocked Bergkamp,Henry or the others ? of course not so please grow up and smell the roses, barca and RM do NOTget rid of WC plyers so what does that tell you, think now. Just take a lok at welbecks record and tell me exactly why you see a world class striker.Wenger has had his day and before the ear is out that will be the call yet again, not from you maybe because you sound the gullible type.

when are we likely to see these 2 world class players you refer to? you refer to Tom being a 15 yr old and yet you yourself haven’t the mentality to see that he is a Spurs supporter and he like me doesn’t like anything to do with the gooners. My god how thick are some of you.

So you believe a report from Goal? lol without any quotes from anyone remotely close to Arsenal?? that’s pretty much the same as trusting what caughtoffside says!!
So obvious that someone at goal noticed sanchez wasn’t playing and therefore decided he’d been dropped!! Then made the rest of the story up!!! Everyone knows that’s how football journos work!!!

ONLY BELIEVE QUOTES FROM ARSNEAL PEOPLE!!!! Anyone else claiming to speak for Arsenal or explain the actions of Arsenal is a liar, a fool or trying to get people to click on their website! (just like you have done with your article! More clicks means you earn more money!!) It is bullsh*t!!

It’s obvious that Sanchez was RESTED!! (not dropped! who would drop an in form Sanchez??) because we were playing a mid table team! The 2 games after are a champs league game and then Chelski!! So obvious he was rested because we need our best player fit!!! He is our best player and most in form so you have to rest him against rubbish teams so he can turn up against the big teams/ for the big games!

a mid table team that wll probably be ahead of the gooners in the table by the end of this weekend. Why can’t you face facts wenger doesn’t know what to do with a player that isn’t a striker and probably not even as effective as Cazorla and maybe even Walcott. Same as ozil he is struggling to find a position in the team that does not expose your midfield and defence and as soon as Giroud and Walcott are fit you will have £100m of players sat on the bench.
sanchez saved despite 2 injuries in 1st half don’t make me laugh.

Haha oh wow! The Spuds will be ahead of us for one game?? That means nothing!! Let’s see where they are at the end of the season!! Wenger knows exactly what Sanchez brings to the team! HE isn’t a striker no, he is a forward! Someone who can play on the wings, as a striker or just behind! Ozil is only struggling on the wings, play him at no.10 and he is man of the match! Did you not see the Villa game??
Giroud plays as he is a big target man! Walcott will play right wing as he has the pace! This means Sanchez will play left wing and Ozil just behind! That on paper are the best options up front! So no, Sanchez and Ozil will not be benched when Giroud and Walcott come back! lol
Arteta and Rambo injured so you’d bring on Sanchez as a replacement?? Now that’s making me laugh mate!! lol You want Sanchez to play at defensive midfield now?? Or center mid?? You are a fool!!!

what like ox, cazorla Walcott and ozil you mean, sanchez replaced Wiltshire and where was he playing ???? you gooners are so gullible, you obviously enjoy falling further and further behind the top clubs . sounds to me as though you are an expert at computer football but clueless about the real thing.

I must say that tom seems clueless and I follow Spurs!!

Arsenal have better players than Spurs. Why? Because their wage bill is twice as high. Spurs would like to sign top class players of the stature of Ozil and Sanchez, but unfortunately Spurs can’t afford the £100k+ per week wages they demand.

Of course Sanchez wasn’t sent on to replace Arteta and Ramsey. Different positions! I suppose you would have sent on Sanchez if Mertesacker had gone off injured? lol.

      September 30, 2014 at 10:11 pm

what a pathetic comment, he replaced Wilshire who plys a very similar position to Ramsey and Arteta. Yes arsenals wage bill is double that of Spurs but the difference between the 2 squadsis minimal and has been for a few years now. Ozil top class please don’t make me laugh, not in the PL he isn’t, £43m should get you te finished product and he is miles away, even your own gooner supporters think he is overrated.

I notice that you say that you follow Spurs and not that you support them and that is the reason for your trying to ridicule Tom’s comment.what a complete prick you are.

RealG, you’re truly a gunner. All the rest are spur fans. If yous think Ozil is a flop, why Germany can drop him for once, why RM didn’t drop him during his time at RM? Wenger tried him on the wing cuz he was fantastic on the wing when playing for his country during the world cup. Since he didn’t performed there as expected by Wenger, he was immediately put in his #10 position and yours see how he killed Villa defense. Sanchez was rested cuz he has played more games since his arrival and wenger have lot of creative forces. Tomas and Cazola have been rested lately and they are both influential players as well.obviously its better for a coach to rotates his players then using one player week in week out

Oh dear you really are gullible. Ask yourself why RM sold him if he was so indispensable. Why wenger moved him back to the wing after being so wonderful against villa. sanchez has played 4 games and is “rested” ! Rested, rotated, say what you like but we know he was dropped.
