Arsene Wenger Gives Injury Update On Welbeck + Debuchy

By on September 13, 2014

Arsene Wenger has given an update on the fitness of Mathieu Debuchy and Danny Welbeck after the duo were forced off against Manchester City this afternoon.

Debuchy was stretchered from the field 15 minutes from the end after appearing to jar his ankle in the turf while chasing a loose ball.

Talking to Arsenal.com after the game, Arsene confirmed that the French defender has a badly sprained ankle but we won’t know the full extent of the problem until further assessments are done.

Welbeck made his debut today following his £16m move from Man Utd and put in a lively display up front. However, he limped off just before full-time with what at first appeared to be a calf problem.

However, thankfully, the boss has revealed the 23-year-old was suffering from cramp. Here’s what Arsene told the clubs website:

on Debuchy’s injury…

Debuchy has a badly sprained ankle. How long will he be out? I don’t know, but it doesn’t look good. People told me they need a bit more time to assess how long he will be out but it’s a bad ankle sprain.

on why Welbeck was replaced…

He had cramps and he should be okay.

Fingers crossed Debuchy’s injury isn’t as bad as it looked as he’d be a huge miss if he was ruled out for any length of time. In his absence, Calum Chambers is likely to start at right-back, although Hector Bellerin is another possible option.

Bellerin should start.. I hate the way everyone screams OZIL was rubbish but are quiet on RAMSEY being rubbish the last three games… Jack minus the goal was playing junk football..OR by the way Jack and Ramsey are British.

Hey! Shut your mouth up. I wonder where you watched your own match? Anyway maybe in a 6 inches black and white TV. Jack Wilshere was voted man of the match in case you don’t know

I have to agree, JW was playing badly before the goal. Had a first half to forget. And he’s also right about Ramsey, the goals have covered up the fact he’s been very weak. Lets be honest if he had tried to do the simple thing it would have been 3-1, instead he tried to open up his body and mis-hit a great chance.
As for where he watched the game, who cares?!? He watched the game,.. that’s enough.

Arsenal problem has started. Big games ahead. Who next. Wenger failed replace Thomas vamelean and to bring a holding mildfielder. Is a total shame. He failed to address all the needed areas

To me, the man of the match is Alexis Sanchez who played tirelessly through out the game. We should stop criticising the efforts of Mesut Ozil, afterall he has not been playing in his prefered central midfield role.
