Fee Agreed, Medical Done, But Arsenal Struggling To Agree Terms With Target

By on August 25, 2014

Arsenal are in danger of missing out on the signing of Kostas Manolas with reports today claiming that we’re struggling to agree personal terms with the defender.

Arsene Wenger has made no secret of the fact he’s on the look-out for a centre-back to replace Thomas Vermaelen after selling the Belgian international to Barcelona.

Manolas emerged as a key target earlier this month and it looked like we could be closing in on his signature after agreeing an £8m fee with Olympiakos and it’s understood the player has already completed his medical in anticipation of a move to the Emirates.

However, Goal claim that despite a fee being agreed and the medical being done, we could miss out on the Greek international’s signature as we’re struggling to agree personal terms with the player.

It’s not clear exactly how much Manolas is looking for or what we’ve offered him so far, but the report states that we’re ‘far apart’ in the negotiations, so it remains to be seen whether we’ll be able to find an agreement.

With our move stalling, Manolas could now be off to Italy with reports suggesting that Roma have identified the 24-year-old as a potential replacement for Mehdi Benatia.

Hopefully we’ll be able to find a breakthrough as Manolas would be an excellent addition and give us some real depth at the back, but we’ll have to see how things develop over the coming week.

Everybody knows how skint Wenger is except for his 8 million pounds a year salary for one lousy FA Cup win in nine seasons.
But Diaby who currently gets 60k per week will probably get a shiny new contract for 70k a week soon for playing in the warm-up matches before the Premier League begins before he promptly disappears to the Emirates Medical Centre for the rest of the season.

I am with you all the way about Wenger and I think he should not be in charge after just 1 trophy in 9 years. But for a poor refs decision in the Cup Final- corner to us instead of a rightful goal kick- leading to our equaliser, we would have lost to Hull in 90 minutes and Wenger would have resigned. I would have been happy to have lost had it meant him going. The Diaby fiasco is a sick joke, paying a permanent invalid 60 grand a week for 7 and a half years to sit on the treatment table. Weird policy from an over the hill manager.

But it’s not 1 trophy in 9 years it is 8 in 17 not including community shields. He also has kept us in the top 4 every year on a shoestring budget and we have played champions league football in every season he has been in charge.

Finally someone with some sense. Nobody with a budget the size of Everton and Aston villa can win trophies cos they didn’t. Next time you guys should critisize objectively. Mou worked with a world class team in real b4 cming to chelsea and in those two years he has had nothing to show but the moment our finances improved we brought in a player like ozil and won a cup something chelsea will wish they had @ least to show for efforts. So stop complaining….the good times aren’t coming…..they are HERE.

Stupid comment – lets be blunt after 7 trophies in his first 8 seasons in charge, Wenger manged just ONE in his next 9 seasons.

Obviously you think his ability in the early years out weights the more recent, clearly your ambition is as great as his – none.

            Fully Agree!

Clearly some people here are not able to see how he has ruined careers of some players by playing them out of position. Too many number 10s playing as wingers, wingers on the bench. No balance! We could have done with a decent striker instead of Ozil as we already had cazorla/wilshere to play as playmakers and Rosicky. Ozil is a very good signing but we had a different requirement. At the moment we have 2 decent defenders and 1 decent striker and shed loads of midfielder. I can’t see us finishing above 3rd unless Winger leaves.

People who think he has won 7 trophies in his first year should also know that Wenger sells his best players when they’re not performing well. Should this not be the case for everybody including Wenger? He has not performed well and it’s high time he should leave now!

He won those first 7 trophies with world class backbone. Henry/Bergkemp/Viera/Adams/Keown et al. Look at our backbone now and he’s doing nothing to improve that backbone in all honesty. He’s an arrogant old tw*t! No tactical skills, he’s only good at picking up good young kids. He should become our academy head. That suits him.

come to think of it, your very right. what sort of a joke is that,Diaby warming de bench for 6-7yrs now, and Wenger is still paying some gud cash on him. Maybe if finaly he is fit and playing gud football, he will want to opt out, remember v.persie, Wenger u beta rethink and fast.

So Wenger decides everything in Arsenal from transfer fees to players’ wages. So all the other people, including the Board, are just there to do Wenger’s bidding. You blokes have no idea how clubs are run. Jeez!

i am sick and tired of mr wenger transfer policies (pranks). His indecisions and inactions has been grave on team over the years, denying us trophies. He should be timely and approiprate to demands of the team inorder to attain success.

What is wrong with some ITK arsenal fans. Believe it or not, the issue here is not money therefore some of us should have the knowledge of what is goin on before you start throwing insult towards the manager. I’m sure whatever manager we have in mind we never achieved half of what he achieved with the low budget he was operating on in the last nine years. He issue with Manolas is not money because the guy is on 7k a week but playing time. We shouldn’t just read one article and base our responds on that and let this blogger or writer draw us to their article with there sensational head line because all they care about Hit

There are lot of Good players @ our range but its like Wenger doesn’t watch other teams like man city with Yaya, fenandor,Fenandinho as compare with flamini, arteta, wilshare. Its bad for him not to correct himself. We can play calvaho, kedira, chambers in midfiled against big team then we wouldn’t be dispatched like last season, 6-0,6-3,5-1 etc with new manager like jorgen clop, ray parlour, begkamp, Viera, simeony , we can do this

Wenger is dithering while his rivals are strengthening. At one time he accused clubs of financial doping. Who cares?
It’s up to him to show he can fight for the epl. Tactically he is naïve compared to the Mourinos and Pellgrinis.Yet he thinks his philosophy will come good. It’s about time he wises up and if he continues to underperform,he shd go.
Btw,stats wise it makes for grim reading .He has won only once against any of the top teams the last five years. I need not elaborate.

Mr Wenger always think still it’s 1999 but we are in 2014 he should by more big player to strengthen our squad in this season if we won’t buy big striker and defensive midfielder we will be out of the top four Olivier failed bring falcao.

The problem with many Arsenal fans is that Wenger has made you blieve that your squad is good but to be sincere that squad is avearage.Wenger has no tactics. He just sits on his chair and waits for a miracle to happen. Look at our squad, how many tall guys are in that squad? The likes of Petit, Berkamp, Veira, Lauren,Pires,Cambel,Gilberto,…list goes on. All these guys were tall with good size of atheletes. Just take a look at our current squad, its just made up of very many short dudes every were and you start asking yourself why we conceed so many goals on set pieces.
Our midfield used to be our weapon but now its the weakest in the big six.Ramsey, Wilshere,Carzolar,Arteta,Flamini are all short and weak.i see them being bullied in all matches. what the hell is happening to Wenger. just sacrifice the money and get pogba and carvallo

The only postions that are making arsenal team to suffer is the deep six en the striker i dont know wether also arsene wenger see this imagine sanogo en Giroud facing the team lyk chelsea where can the goal cme from unless miracles happen en this season arsenal wont finish in the top if arsene doesnt buy the DM en striker

Wenger will surely destroy Arsenal at the end with his french mission team. We need DM,CD and a very sharp striker like falcao or Cavani.

I’m confused as to why so many inciteful people know so much about football management. When people criticise Wenger can they please list their skills, knowledge and professional experience at the highest level in football which enables them to make such a judgement. Without this knowledge I’m inclined to suspect that they may not be quite as clever as they think they are……..

If people saw a surgical procedure carried out on TV would they then tell the surgeon how to do his job if they had to go into hospital for that same operation?

Its a pity mates, I look and wonder, ” Is this really happening or its in my mind only?”. Every single year we have to deal with all these shenanigans from a manager who is up to no good. Do you think Mourinho would do such mismanagement and stay at Chelsea? No chance. Here Wenger goes on talking that he has many strikers, how many? Does Sanogo count? Come on, we need to raise our voices to get a change.

I mean at the end of season we had a need for CB, DM and a striker. Almost at the end we still have no Defender, DM and no striker and the fate exposes us by injury to the only striker we have and hence panicking. Cant wait to see the back of Wenger.
