Arsenal ‘Most Likely’ Destination For £37m Powerhouse – Reports

By on July 30, 2014

Some interesting news coming from Portugal today with reports claiming that Arsenal are now considered as the most likely destination for William Carvalho after Sporting Lisbon decided to cash-in on the midfielder.

Arsene Wenger is widely expected to bring in a defensive midfielder this summer and with a deal for Sami Khedira stalling and Morgan Schneiderlin seemingly off to Tottenham, Carvalho has emerged as a top target.

Reports earlier this month claimed that we had tabled a £24m bid but it was immediately rejected as Sporting were demanding the full value of the 22-year-old’s £37m buy-out clause.

However, we’ve been handed a major boost with Portuguese newspaper Record reporting today that Sporting chiefs have held an emergency meeting to discuss the clubs precarious financial position and it was decided they have no option but to sell Carvalho to the highest bidder.

The paper states that Sporting are so desperate, they are now willing to sell at ‘substantially’ below his £37m buy-out fee as long as the buying club are prepared to pay the entire fee up front and not spread it out over installments.

Carvalho is part-owned by an investment company meaning only 50% of any sale price will go to the club, so Sporting are demanding the entire fee in advance to help pay the bills and fund a replacement.

This puts Arsenal in a strong position over other clubs are we are cash rich and will have no problem being able to stump up a large sum of money, so the paper suggests that we are now the most likely destination for the midfielder this summer.

While I’d still prefer us to sign Khedira or Schneiderlin, Carvalho would be an excellent alternative and he’s certainly got a bright future ahead of him. He doesn’t have the winning mentality of Khedira or the Premier League experience of Schneiderlin, but he’s a beast of a player and would bring some much needed physicality to our midfield.

I have a feeling Arsene may see how things pan out with Khedira and Schneiderlin before taking any decision over Carvalho, but I’d be pleased enough if he ended up being our defensive midfield signing this summer.

Sams or Cavallo would be good. Sams would be better because he would play with his German team mates.

If we lose opportunity to sign kedira, why not sign back Alex song, Let forget the past. and move forward. We seriously need blocking 4 ,Kedira or Song can fil the Gap. Up Gunners

What is this talk of Song? He is not needed or wanted. khedira is a fool to try to blackmail Arsenal, Bender is another forever in the treatment room. Schneiderlin has no ambition if he’s willing to accept a move to the tottering Clowns. Carvalho is the one to go for and getting him will piss-off some rivals big time.

Bonaroca:- Every player a team buys is a risk, some might settle themselves quickly some take time, but the risk is always there. Mr Wenger has taken risks with many players so I would say that a risk
with the calibre of Carvalho who is chased accordingly is worth taking apart that he is only 22 years of age.

Why are people saying sing when he’s not a DM? He’s more a Ramsey or Wilshere type player. Prefers to set up goals not prevent them.
Am sure some of the commenters here have never even watched us play.

How people can talk about Song like he is some kind of Judas, he did not want to leave Wenger wanted shot for some reason … But for me in his last season he was the most under rated player at Arsenal he was immense for us and his game got better and better … I would have him back at Arsenal tomorrow and anyone who thinks otherwise does not know their football, he can slip back into the back four if necessary, breaks play up well, his distribution got better and better and he chipped in with the odd goal … He would be a great signing …. and in what world is Khedira a DM??? box to box yes but we have them already in Ramsey and Wilshere and am happy with those, Carvalho I have not seen much of so cannot pass judgment but he is a good age of 22 and if he is the player people think he is then fine

My main concern is the donkey that leads the line Giroud is one of the worse strikers Arsenal have ever had. We need a DM and a Striker of quality … Arsenal have been used to Henrys and Bergkamps not Giroud he is awful

We are close … Very close … the premiership could be ours with two more signings best squad I have seen at Arsenal !!!

William Carvalho would be a good addition for the Arsenal. He is adept at breaking up play and is also very capable of starting moves from deep and dictating the pace of the game. He is a good organiser of the defense and will also give Ramsey license to support attacking play much like Fernandinho did for Yaya Toure last season and at 22 can still improve. I do hope this deal goes through and we gonners see him as an Arsenal player. I think he looks a very capable holding midfielder and he enjoys the dark arts. In my opinion he would be a fantastic signing.

just sign Carvalho bender is injury prone. Khedira is one injury away from the end and is still nursing an injury while William looks like he would enable us to play proper Wenger Ball and win the title as opposed to compromising our believes and still coming 4th

we only need a DM of khedira type and a world class striker not Giroud and the deal will be done.
