Arsenal Blow As £27m-Rated ‘No.1 Target’ Rejects Move – Reports

By on July 29, 2014

Arsenal have been dealt a transfer blow with widespread reports claiming that Morgan Schneiderlin has rejected a move to the Emirates in favour of linking up with former boss Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham.

Schneiderlin has been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal this summer as Arsene Wenger looks to bring in a defensive midfielder to replace Mikel Arteta next season.

Reports last week suggested the boss had made the French international his No.1 target after failing to agree a deal for Sami Khedira, and we had supposedly put forward a lucrative contract offer to try and lure the Southampton ace away from St Mary’s.

However, the Telegraph are one of several outlets who are claiming Schneiderlin has turned his back on a switch to the Emirates as he would rather link up with former boss Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs.

Goal.com’s chief correspondent Wayne Veysey has confirmed the news, saying the midfielder turned down Arsenal as he wanted guaranteed first team football.

It says a lot about a player if he doesn’t have the confidence in his own ability to earn a first team spot rather than being ‘guaranteed’ one, so perhaps we’ve dodged a bullet here.

There was also going to be a problem agreeing a fee with Southampton. Reports claim the South Coast club are demanding £27m for Schneiderlin and there’s no chance Arsene would pay that kind of price.

It will be interesting to see whether Spurs can now get a deal done, with the newspapers suggesting they are due to open talks with the midfielders agent and Southampton today, but it looks like we’ll have to move on to other targets now.

William Carvalho has emerged as a possibility, and there are still rumours suggesting we’ll have another go for Khedira, so we’ll have to see how things develop….

buying team ? were selling vermearlin monreal jenkinson campbell and maybe santi and podolski and sanogo.
sanga fabianski and bentner have already gone .
weve only signed four players .
weve spent only £66 million of our £ 120 million budget +deals we had available .
now were knocking down the numbers to save a few quid .
same old problem waiting to happen if we get a few injuries were knackered ,cause weve let our cover players go for peanuts .
mind you arsene is going to give girould a nice shiny new contact and no doubt wage increase .

LOL last week Arsenal fans couldn’t wait for Schneiderlin to arrive and he was the best thing since sliced bread, now because he rejected the move because Arsenal aren’t good enough they don’t want him, get it right, HE doesn’t want YOU

      Doesn’t want CL football?
Doesn’t want to play for a big club?
Wants to play for the spuds over us?

Give me a break! He’d start over Arteta anyday. Enjoy playing FC Sherrif on Channel 5 Morgan.

No that’s right, of course that lanky streak of p1ss wouldn’t spend that much on a player. How much did he spend on a pair of off-side eyes?

who rattled your cage? I bet have far more brain cells than you Matey! you obviouly lack intellegence if you believe that all Trevor’s share the same nickname. The fact that the general opinion above is to state that the player is not good enough for your club and wasn’t in fact a target in the first place just shows the lack of intellegence amongst Ars*nal fans!

Morgan Schneiderlin is a very good player, trusted by both Southampton and the French National side and coveted by quite a few clubs throughout Europe. Wayne Vasey is incorrect and a snide when he says that the player prefers Spurs over Arsenal because he would be guaranteed a starting roll. In fact he’s the only one to makes that assumption. The fact that Schneiderlin knows Pochettino’s style and approach very well having played for him at Southampton could have swayed his decision if indeed he does join Spurs. He isn’t the first player to snub Arsenal and wont be the last either. Every club has and will continue to be snubbed by players, no big deal, it’s a fact of life just like joining one company over another, life goes on. Fans get too hurt and upset when a player overlooks their club in preference to another. Because it’s Spurs over Arsenal instead of another club touches a nerve for some. Deal with it and move on.

morgan is right cos he thought his ability is not up to arsenal standart that he can not get required games at arsenal, so spur is an alternative.
