“Arsenal Are In Advanced Talks For £20m Midfielder”

By on July 12, 2014

talkSPORT presenter and former footballer Stan Collymore had some exciting news last night as he claimed on Twitter that he’s spoken to the agent of Sami Khedira who confirmed Arsenal in advanced talks to sign the Real Madrid midfielder.

Newspapers have linked us with the German international in recent weeks with Arsene Wenger understood to have identified the 27-year-old as the ideal long-term replacement for Mikel Arteta.

And it looks like those reports had some foundation as Collymore revealed that he’s spoken with the players agent who confirmed we’ve been holding serious talks about bringing the player to north London this summer.

Madrid have agreed a deal to sign Toni Kroos from Bayern Munich and with Khedira now entering the final year of his deal at the Bernabeu, it’s believed that Carlo Ancelotti is ready to cash in for a fee in the region of £20m.

However, while Arsenal are ready to offer the player a fresh start in England, Collymore’s claim comes amid reports coming from the Metro that suggest Chelsea are lining-up a late bid to try and hijack our move for the German international.

Jose Mourinho was the one who took Khedira to Madrid back in 2010 and held a close relationship with the midfielder during his time in Spain, so the Blues will certainly pose a major threat if they do formalise their interest.

Some reports also claim that Khedira is demanding wages of around £150,000-a-week, which could price us out of any deal, but it remains to be seen how much truth there is in that. I find it hard to believe that he’s asking for that kind of money but I suppose you never know these days.

Who knows if we’ll be able to pull this one off but it’s great to hear that Arsene is continuing to be ambitious in the market and target top class players. If we end up missing out on Khedira, then other targets include Lars Bender and Morgan Schneiderlin and I’d be delighted with any of the trio.

I don’t think we should meet his excessive pay demands when there are other players available Bender or why not bring back Alex Song he knows the way we play and would not make the same wage demands. We brought Flamimi back last year and he did a decent job.

The idea of having so back does not work. What did so achieve for Arsenal during his time at Emirates? Nothing, let us pay him the 150k and we are assured of results. We need a disciplined defensive midfielder like Khedira who will protect our defense. Song failed in that. We need a rebranded Arsenal.

OMG! Why would you guys want Song back seriously? Arsenal lost a lot of games because of this Guy’s poor position discipline and now you want him back? WTF, I’d rather stick with Arteta.

We surely want a strong & desciplined holding midfilder in names of Khedira or Bender not Song. This is a branded new Arsenal.

New faces, new Arsenal, new era of success. No going back for old players. Fly high arsenal, fly with the emirates.

Arsenal must stay well clear from Alex “Song-kamp” if we’re to be taken serious and mount a challenge.

We need a DM who can protect our defence not expose them. Song was better going forward than he was defending and shouldn’t even be up for debate.

I’d rather stick with Flamini if all else fails in finding a suitable replacement.
