Sagna ‘Completes Medical After Agreeing £140k-A-Week Man City Deal’

By on May 20, 2014

Bacary Sagna appears on the brink of leaving Arsenal with some reports today claiming he has already completed a medical with Manchester City after agreeing terms over a three-year deal worth £140,000-a-week.

Sagna’s contract is due to expire and the right-back is widely expected to end his six-year stay in North London after failing to agree terms over an extension, despite holding several rounds of talks with the club.

The 31-year-old has been holding out for us to improve upon our final offer, but Arsenal officials are understood to have refused to budge with our latest offer being a two-year deal with the option of a third year worth around £80,000-a-week.

Sagna was in tears after the FA Cup final on Saturday and during the victory parade the following day but it appears he hasn’t wasted any time in trying to resolve his future as there were reports yesterday suggesting he was due in Manchester to hold formal talks with City over a move to the Etihad.

The Daily Star claim today that those talks were successful and Sagna agreed terms over a three-year deal worth a ridiculous £140,000-a-week on Monday, with the Premier League champions forced to up their offer to fend off late interest from Manchester United.

The newspaper also suggests that the Frenchman completed his medical last night and will officially put pen-to-paper in the next couple of days as he wants the move tied up before he joins up with the France squad on Friday.

Personally, I’d be hugely surprised if this report is accurate as I just don’t see Sagna trotting off to Manchester just 24 hours after celebrating with the Arsenal fans, but I suppose you just never know.

If he’s made his mind up that he’s leaving, there’s no point in dragging this out any longer. I’ll be disappointed to see him go but we’re not going to match the supposed £140,000-a-week City are offering, and rightly so. That’s a crazy sum for a full-back who’s the wrong side of thirty.

Good luck Bac, you’ve been a great servant but I just hope you don’t see out your final years warming the City bench.

I read a report that said he was going to be on 340k per week for the next 10 years at City. It has to be true because that’s a drop in the ocean for City, they don’t even look at the contracts properly. Their owners are so stupid they pay more than 5 times the market value. I think this is because they are stupid and obviously clueless about business. That must be why they are so poor.

If true that is impressive, just shy of £7.3m wage and they are not allowed to increase their wages beyond the 2013/2014 level – wonder who they are getting rid of the cover that?

With other players being touted to arrive from Portugal, that is even more off the wages bill they need to transfer out.

So what tasty players will be up for sale?

The comment about getting the deal done quickly is key, IMHO.

We have been in this situation enough times now to know how it pans out. Sagna and The Club have failed to come close to an agreement in a whole season, it is clear that Sagna has no intention of staying; he just wants to get his new deal tied up before he says goodbye. The worst possible scenario is that he stalls until the last week of August and then announces that he is off. I wish Wenger had the cojones to set him an ultimatum – sign by the end of the week or we replace you!

Let’s get the deal done and get Serge Aurier signed up.

To be honest, I am not shedding any tears at Sagna’s departure. He has only been average this season and he gets us into a lot of defensive problems; he is definitely not value for £140 k per week plus a big sign- on fee.

Right on cue Aj! I’m just glad we have a chance to snap a more dynamic RB. No tear shed there, bon voyage Bac

Sagna has been a brilliant player for us, but I do think it was noticeable in the cup final just how much pace he has lost. He used to have that burst of pace that stopped wingers/strikers getting past him or at least allowed him to stay with them and make a tackle. He was caught out several times on Saturday, so whilst he may have got away with another season at the top I think his age and the two leg breaks have started to take their toll. Good luck to him though wherever he goes, if he can get a 3 or 4 year deal on 100k+ you cannot blame him, 2 years at Arsenal on less money wouldn’t make sense at his age.

to me, sagna has not been such a good player. if you look at the many games we have been loosing, the opposition teams have been scoring from his flank, he either looses the ball or he is caught in a wrong position……… goodbye bacs”

Sagna has been a rock in our defense he has lost a lot of pace but we could still use him as a cb and he only wanted 100k per week to stay in arsenal and man city are offering 140k a week keep in mind its his last professional contract !! give me one other right back sagnas age and broke his leg twice who plays as many games as he does !! look at Alves he has been piss poor for barcelona this season and hes one year younger than sagna and didnt get his leg broken twice in one season yet he’s been out of position so many times and countless goals conceded from his flank !!
