Arsenal Told To Pay £45m After Opening £32m Bid Rejected – Report

By on May 16, 2014

Reports today claim that Arsenal have seen an opening £32m bid for Angel Di Maria rejected with Real Madrid demanding nearer £45m for the attacker.

We were strongly linked with Di Maria last summer but Carlo Ancelotti decided to hang on to him and opted to sell us Mesut Ozil instead [thanks for that, Carlo].

The Argentinean has since enjoyed a mixed season at the Bernabeu. At times he’s looked unplayable and has chipped in with an impressive 11 goals and 21 assists in his 50 appearances so far.

However, he’s also been criticised by the local media and fans for being inconsistent and there has been talk he could be made available as part of a summer overhaul at Madrid, with President Florentino Perez ready to mix things up after seeing the club miss out on the title for the second consecutive season.

Sevilla attacker Ivan Rakitic is understood to be a key target for the Spaniard’s and Di Maria’s position would come under threat if the Croatian international was to move to the Bernabeu.

The Express newspaper claim that the uncertainty surrounding Di Maria’s future led to Arsenal offering to pay £32m for his services earlier this week, but it seems Real are ready to hold out for a better deal with the club demanding nearer £45m for the winger.

He’s certainly not worth that kind of money, but if we could get him for around £30m-£35m then it would be a great signing. We clearly need to add to our attacking options this summer as our lack of depth in the forward positions ended up costing us this season once the injuries pilled up.

If we’d have had a player of Di Maria’s quality available it would have made a huge difference. If we could sign someone like him, as well as another striker, a defensive midfielder and replacements for Sagna and Vermaelen if they leave, then we’ll be in great shape next year.

Are you nuts? Judging by performances this season, the fact that he’s able to play on both wings, as a cam and that he has the most assists in la liga, he’s worth at least 40m.

Obviously a lot depends on their willingness to sell, but I’d rather have Griezmann, especially if the rumors about everybody’s favorite little Mexican chipper are true; their link up play is already established and the back up options they collectively offer would add so much depth to the attacking side of the team….

As far as Sagna goes I’d like to see another Gooner Gunner (Serge Aurier)fighting for the position, obviously they have to be supplemented by outstanding talent further up the pitch but we could do with a couple more Romford Pele’s in the team, wearing the colour of the shirt on their sleeve when it really matters.

I think a few would agree with me that The Verminator could do with at least a season trying out the Defensive Mid role. I’m no coach but his limitation defensively seems to be his positioning and that could prove to be an asset if his role is changed…. As for his positional replacement God (Myles Palmer/Lothar Matthaus) knows , lets look at the lower leagues in France again; if we can find another player with half the skill and conviction of Koscielny I’d be one happy gooner!

10 min and the gunners are 2-0 down. It could have been worse.
That shows the defence aint good enough to stand the severe tests that will be forth coming.
Btw,what happened to the JAn signing?Wenger is at fault for losing the title. The cup win may paper over his short comings but unless he shores up the defence next season will be another one to forget.

Malaysian Gunner – the defence as a whole is good and has been up there with the best over the last couple of seasons. The issue has been those games away from home against the teams around us in the league and our COLLECTIVE approach to the games. It isn’t about individual players and having better ones in place, it’s the set up of the team and subsequent tactics -particularly defensively- which has cost us. Got that right in at least two of those 4 games and we would have been in with a shout of winning the title with a couple of games to play.
