First Summer Signing Done? Arsenal ‘Sign 20-Goal Striker’ – Reports

By on May 14, 2014

Some interesting reports are doing the rounds this evening claiming that Arsenal have activated a buy-back clause to re-sign Carlos Vela for just £3m.

The Mexican was on Arsenal’s books for six years between 2005 and 2011 but made just 62 appearances during that time – scoring 11 goals – before making a £2m switch to Real Sociedad.

But Vela has been a surprising hit in La Liga over the past three years and has really found his form this season where he’s scored 20 goals and provided 13 assists to help Sociedad push for a sixth-place finish.

However, widespread reports both in Spain and the UK claim that Arsene Wenger has activated a buy-back clause that was inserted into the strikers contract when we sold him, that states we can re-sign him for just £3m.

The Metro suggests that Wenger want’s to see how much Vela has progressed in pre-season training and if he still doesn’t feel he’s up to the Arsenal standard, then he’ll simply sell him on at a vast profit.

There have been suggestions in Spain that the likes of Atletico Madrid and Valencia are keen on keeping him in La Liga and could be willing to pay up to £20m for his services, so it would be a shrewd bit of business if we did decide to cash-in straight away.

It’s pretty-much a win-win. If Vela impresses the boss enough, we’ve bagged ourselves a 20-goal a season attacker for just £3m. If not, then we can turn a quick profit of around £17m.

There is of course the possibility Vela could turn down the move back to north London, but that’s unlikely as he hinted last month that he feels he’s ready to prove his worth in England and would be open to returning to the Emirates.

It’s obvious we need to strengthen our attacking options this summer and Vela would be a useful player to have in the squad as he can play anywhere across the front-line, has bags of pace and an eye for goal.

But whether he’s ready to do the business in the Premier League is another question and one that Arsene is going to have to answer this summer if these reports are proved accurate.

Do you think Vela would be a good signing?

I always rated Vela during his Arsenal spell-as a fairly useful squad player….But I also could see that he wasn’t particularly suited to the physicality and intensity of the Premier League. It was obvious that he would have far greater long term success in Spain. This remains my opinion and bringing him back to England would simply back up my opinion that under Arsene Wenger’s tutelage Arsenal will not improve.Another typical “budget” purchase-who would be an improvement upon Bentner,Park,or the exceedingly clumsy Sanogo but leaves us unlikely to get past the “groundhog day” that remains forth place!Anyone who believes that the leopard will change it’s spots and we will see any number of necessary blue chip signings bought into the club are just as deluded as the Manager.A reliable left back (neither prone to continuous injury or with the ability to defend);a central-midfield general (with the ability to outpace a snail, pass the ball forwards, and protect the back four);a replacement right back and similarly a replacement back-up centre back;and lastly a centre forward who can perform at the highest level (against better teams and isn’t just a “flat rack bully”)
Unfortunately this little lot would cost the club something within the realms of £100m and would never be sanctioned b the Manager. So the excuses will undoubtedly continue to be heard and Abou Diaby will once again be described as a “new signing”…until, that is, he breaks down!!…Same old!!

Utterly stupid comment by a typical and moronic Wenger-hater, a.k.a. AAA. Pathetic.

Sometimes i do question Arsenal fans whether they enjoy 4th position or winning trophies. We need world class players all over the pitch, players that can win us the champions league and not a bunch of players who just run with the ball and sometimes forget it behind.we should be screaming for players like Di maria, Reus, Costa and pogba.with Wenger in charge i see 4th as the best option for us.Our fans dont even see our weakest positions. We need 2 world class wingers and a striker that know what they are doing and DM

I also was of the opinion that Wenger or arsenal can build a formidable second team. to complement the first conceding the fact that next will be very busy for us. or buy players that will be able to compete with the likes of CFC and MCFC.

I dont think vela would be a good signing becoz,am not seeing carlos getting regular 1st fooball to arsenal.beside that,if arsenal is to challange next year,we need to buy serious players not of c.vela type.& even arsenal’s transfer policy is not good, they rather change the policy or change the manager.
