Reports: Wenger ‘Working Hard’ On Deal To Re-Sign Former Captain

By on February 28, 2014

Don’t shoot the messenger but reports today are claiming that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is already ‘working hard’ on a deal to try and bring former captain Robin van Persie back to the club this summer.

In what would be a hugely controversial decision, it’s being reported that the boss has already spoken with the board about financing the move and they expect the deal would cost less than the £24m we sold him for 18 months ago.

The news comes after reports from Italy last week suggested that Wenger had met with van Persie’s agent where he was told that the striker is unhappy at Manchester United and wants to return to the Emirates this summer.

United are understood to have informed the player they wont stand in his way if he wants to leave, and Wenger is believed to be warming to the idea of re-signing him and has now set the wheels in motion to try and get a deal done.

The Dutchman has certainly not looked himself this season and fuelled suggestions that he’s unhappy after slamming United after their 2-0 defeat to Olympiakos on Tuesday. There have also been rumours that he’s not happy with David Moyes training techniques, but a return to Arsenal? Really?!

I don’t see it myself. van Persie is a hate figure in north London after the way he left the club in 2012 and it would be extremely difficult for him to worm his way back into the team. I’m sure Wenger felt let down by him, which makes these reports even more questionable.

Also, would the Arsenal players take him back? I know I wouldn’t be best pleased about it if I was someone like Aaron Ramsey, after RVP basically told Wenger the Welshman wasn’t good enough. That turned out well, eh Robin?

Arsenal set to announce triple deal

Obviously we need another striker this summer and although van Persie is still a fine player, I simply can’t see anything coming of these rumours. Too much has gone on for him to come back and I think we need to look for a younger player who hasn’t got his injury record. You just know if we did re-sign him he’d have another injury plagued season.

So, thanks but no thanks.

Would you take van Persie back?

let buy him for $2.8 M transfer fees and around 40-50K per week, perhaps almost the same cost as we get him from Fayenood. Let see what that do to his ego, if he truely want to play here again then his ego got to hit hard by the baton.

I’m trying really hard not to vent a tirade of expletives.
I can’t believe for one minute that there could be a grain of truth in this rumor that has been banded about recently.
I now look upon RVP as a disrespectful two faced, self promoting, Back stabbing slime ball, and I think a proportion of the dressing would share the same opinion.
The manner in which he left the club was appalling and totally unprofessional, I am repulsed by him and could not accept him back at out fine club.
Players come & players go……..He’s gone….FOR GOOD I hope. furthermore I hope he rots wherever he ends up !

We can re-sign him if only he can accept that he will apologise to all Gunners faithful,team-mates, manager and other team officials and board in general and equally ready for pay-cut, then we can resign him because everybody make mistake. He has made his and ready to makes correction.

No way should he be allowed back. He let the club down badly on many levels and joins the ranks of Nasri, Adebayor and Cole. He’s got a nerve now it’s suddenly gone pear shaped at Utd. He should have taken a leaf out of his compatriot – Dennis Bergkamp – a loyal Arsenal legend.

Forget formalized apologies, meaningless ritualized acts of remorse or platitudes of sincerity, at every single level the resigning of that guy would be diabolical.

Nope! Joel Campbell is the ideal addition we have to make in summer, and not heartless idiots like robin van-traitor…that will infact deny our precious jewel sanogo a chance to develop….but since forgiveness exist, we can let come back as a steward in the emirates

Hhhmm, d guy really messed with our trust on him… He should ve have let go of his greed n lust for trophies…now look wia it’s landed him.
His departure cost us Alex Song. I can remember Arsene Wenger saying Without RVP, Song is useless.

    He should rot wherever He’s,
cus if He think we will Immortalise him like Henry n Bekham den He’s a big loser.
