RATINGS: My Player Ratings From Arsenal’s 2-1 Win Over Liverpool

By on February 16, 2014

Arsenal are through to the last eight of the FA Cup after beating Liverpool 2-1 at the Emirates this afternoon. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Lukas Podolski got the goals before Steven Gerrard pulled one back from the penalty spot. However, we held on to book our place in the quarter finals where we’ll face Everton.

Here are my ratings:

Fabianski – 8/10 – The Pole was excellent in goal, making several top drawer saves to deny Sturridge and Suarez in particular. A big performance from the lad.

Jenkinson – 7/10 – Was always looking to bomb forward and much of our play was down the right. Did well up against Sterling.

Monreal – 7/10 – Was booked early on so had to be careful and Nacho put in a professional display.

Mertesacker – 7/10 – The big German put in a solid performance at the back. Did well up against a dangerous Liverpool attack.

Koscielny – 7.5/10 – Back to his best. He made some important interceptions and his pace was vital in stifling the likes of Suarez and Sturridge.

Arteta – 7/10 – Did very well in the middle of the park and looked surprisingly fresh considering he looked knackered against United in midweek.

Flamini – 7/10 – Quietly went about his business and his positional sense in front of the back four was important. We’ve missed his defensive instincts recently.

The Ox – 8.5/10 – Another superb display from the Ox. He tucked away his goal well and set up what turned out to be the winner. Great stuff. Although he was lucky to get away with a blatant foul on Suarez in the area.

Ozil – 7.5/10 – Another encouraging performance. His ball to release Chamberlain for the second goal was inch-perfect. It’s moments of genius like that that make him world class.

Podolski – 7/10 – Showed his excellent finishing ability with a cool right-footed finish but his clumsy hack on Suarez gave away a penalty.

Sanogo – 7/10 – Was a surprise starter but showed huge desire to impress. He worked his socks off up front and although he looked a little rusty at times, he did well overall.

Subs:

Cazorla – 6/10 – Missed a great chance to put the game to bed when he blazed over.

Gibbs – 6/10 – On to protect Monreal down the left.

Giroud – N/A

This was a huge result for us. It was important we not only got back to winning ways, but also keep our hopes of a trophy alive. I know we’re still in the title race but the FA Cup is a great opportunity to lift a piece of silverware this season. Everton next, which will be just as hard a test as today was.

What were your ratings? Can we go all the way?
