Draxler Update + Arsenal Set To Hold Talks Over €8.5m Defender

By on January 26, 2014

Another day and another update on our pursuit of Julian Draxler with reports today suggesting that we are yet to agree a fee with Schalke, while we are also believed to be set to hold talks with Frankfurt for defender Sebastian Jung.

Widespread reports on Friday and Saturday suggested that we were closing in on the signing of Draxler after ‘sources’ in Germany claimed we had agreed a fee for the 20-year-old.

However, Goal are suggesting this evening that contrary to those reports, we have NOT yet agreed a deal as Arsenal have so far only offered a maximum of £30m while Schalke are holding out for the full value of the players buy-out clause – which is set at £37.5m.

They also claim that the Germans want to secure a replacement before agreeing to let the attacking midfielder leave this month, with Tottenham’s Lewis Holtby believed to be their top target.

Draxler is understood to be keen on making the move now rather than waiting for the summer and further talks will take place with Arsenal officials over the next few days to see if a deal can be reached.

I really hope we can pull this off before the window closes on Friday night because we’re sure to face much sterner competition in the summer and we could use him during the second half of the season. Fingers crossed we hear good news soon.

Goal are also reporting that senior Gunners officials will fly out to Frankfurt to discuss the signing of right-back Sebastian Jung with Wenger viewing him as a potential replacement for Bacary Sagna.

The Frenchman’s contract expires at the end of the season and is yet to come to an agreement over an extension, and he has plenty of interest from the likes of Monaco, PSG and Inter Milan.

With the stalemate on-going, it makes sense we’ll look at our options and it seems we’re keen on Jung. The 23-yea-old is valued at around €8.5m (£7m) by Frankfurt but this is probably a deal we’ll look to conclude in the summer if we can reach an agreement with the Germans.

My preference would be for Sagna to extend his stay at the Emirates but the longer this drags out the more it looks like he’ll be off in the summer, which would be a huge loss. Lets hope Wenger can persuade him to commit his future to the club.

why is that it always takes a big club like Arsenal to pull off deals. It is high time we behave like a worldclass team and always put fans under undue speculations. Arsenal! wake up! anf behave like an industry player.

We, the arsenal fans are only after a big spend, don’t matter who he is and how good he is we want arsenal to spend big. Look at ozil for example, he is a good player but in my opinion is not worth £42mill not at arsenal, when he first arrived it was a £42 mill player we had in our team but now the prick don’t do much. Some of you fools will say that he is worth the money but then a fool is a fool and more fool you who listens to one. I am in favour of us buying as striker because at the moment we don’t terrify any defenders and we give too many goal chances away. We(arsenal) don’t have to spend 30-40 mill on a player too mean a good buy, but this so called fans think they are playing fifa. We can buy pooh for £40 mill and the fans would be happy.. That’s arsenal fan base for you.

Ric you are a fool. Please do not speak for the entire Arsenal fan base. Your comments make no sense, and you call people fools when you cannot even use correct grammar and spelling. The entire Arsenal fan base is absolutely not looking for a huge buy. As a die hard Gooner I would put all my hopes in Wengers extension before any players regardless of who they are. I am happy and I do not care if we buy a player this window or not. I’m no fool and myself as well as MANY Other Gooners trust in Wengers decision making when it comes to the transfer window., and do not believe in false media reports. I believe what Wengers says is official business and do not get my AFC news from the horrible media outlets trying to get a story. I’m smart enough to get all of my news directly from the teams official site and no other place. You are correct life is not FIFA. I prefer Wenger continues to find Gems like Santi and others who have not costs us financial instability and have now integrated into the squad well enough to have us competing for trophies in the league, Fa cup, and CL. Wengers plan is now showing its proof of his ambitions and the desire for silverware. Anyone who doubted him is the only fool to me. Also, if you know football then you would know that Ozil makes fantastic contributions to the game even when you and I can not visibly see it because we are not on the pitch. When the worlds greatest managers and players confirm this, then the statement and hype is obviously true.

Moreover we have the best CB pairing and defensive record in the league so I’m wondering if you have been watching our games or if you are simply just clueless

Your opinions are farcical. Your aggression is unwarranted.Your comprehension of written english is non-existent.

you plead for arsenal to ‘spend big’ without any alleged care for the quality of the acquisition, yet you go on to lament the price of the ozil deal.

pls, do us all a favour and fuck off. we do not need gobshites like you amongst the arsenal faithful.
