IMAGE: Wilshere Charged Yet FA Ignore Toure’s X-Rated Tackle & Inept Refereeing

By on December 17, 2013

Saturday was certainly a day to forget for everyone associated with Arsenal Football Club.

We saw our lead at the top of the league cut to just two points following a 6-3 humbling by Manchester City, Laurent Koscielny was forced off with a nasty injury, Per Mertesacker was seen berating our record signing after he failed to applaud the away fans after the game and Jack Wilshere has now landed himself in hot water with the FA for making an obscene gesture towards the City fans.

While Jack was completely in the wrong for swearing towards the home crowd and deserves the impending one-match ban that he’s odds-on to receive, there were several other instances during the 90 minutes that had a far greater impact on the game that have simply been brushed under the carpet by the Arsenal-hating media and Football Association.

The image below – which was shared on Twitter earlier by @ArsenalFCStats – shows how we were on the wrong end of some scandalous decisions by the officials:

  • The Yaya Toure tackle that could have broken Olivier Giroud’s leg but went unpunished
  • At least three offside decisions, two of which lead to goals.
  • A clear penalty when Zabaleta handled in the area

These decisions could very-well have cost us at least a point and who knows, that may well be a deciding factor in this seasons title race.

However, did we see images of Toure’s x-rated ‘tackle’ plastered all over the newspapers on Sunday? Did MOTD analyse the numerous incorrect decisions that went against us throughout the game? Are any questions being asked of the officials for their inept performance?

The simple answer to these questions is, NO. The papers and pundits chose to drool over Toure’s performance, which in fairness apart from the tackle was superb, but surely he should be treated like any other player and be criticised for such a poor challenge? If that was someone with the reputation of say, Lee Cattermole, there would have been a hate campaign against him and he would almost certainly have been pulled up by the FA and slapped with a ban.

But while nothing has come against Toure – who could have broken a players leg – or the referee Martin Atkinson and his assistants – who could have cost us the league with their poor decisions – Jackie Wilshere is set to miss one of the biggest games of the season for sticking a bloody finger in the air. It’s utterly ridiculous.

Should we be surprised by the FA’s actions? NO. The FA have had it in for us for years. All they are is a corrupt gentleman’s club where back-handers and favours are dished out on a regular basis and they pick and choose which players/clubs to target.

Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney elbowed James McCarthy off the ball last season – FA let him off. Rooney kicked out at Cardiff’s Jordan Mutch last month – FA let him off. Fulham’s Sascha Riether stands on United’s Adnan Januzaj this season – FA charge him. Arsenal’s Jack Wilshere sticks a finger up for all of about 2 seconds – FA charge him.

Various players have been banned or fined for making comments on Twitter, while other players such as Rooney and Toure get away with dangerous and petulant tackles without even a slap on the wrists. Are we now saying that sticking a finger up or making comments on a social network site is more damaging to the game than a potentially career-threatening challenge?

The games gone mad….

This goes back far further than that. 91 season – handbags at Old Trafford. Fa decide Arsenal get a 2 point deduction to United’s 1 point. Why? Never explained. Still as we sang late that year “you can stick your f*ckin two points up your *rse”.
One day the bias will be explained and the corruption will be laid bare. Meantime go read Untold Arsenal for a detailed exposition of just how there is one set of rules for Arsenal, and 1 set for the rest.

In a way Arsenal were responsible for their own downfall. It was mainly the players tiredness, imho. That is why for Arsenal to win the epl will be a much greater joy than the the two M clubs.
The old farts in the FA,I believe, want to perpetuate the domination of the northern clubs. The ref’s decisions if given impartially could
    have changed the game.

the only reason dj campbell and the others are under investigation is because they never gave their cut to the f.a. police should investigate the f.a and the referees if they want corruption to reduce.

I don’t disagree with anything you have said but given that Suarez received a ban and fine for the same act I am very disappointed that Lil Jack would give the FA the chance to do this. For a moment of self control he has let his team down badly because we will most certainly be without him, as you say, in one of the biggest games of the year.

From watching the game I too agree that referee and linesmen were bias against Arsenal. Being human, referees make one or two bad calls are understandable. With so many bad calls in one game certainly invite suspicion of ‘fishy’ business. Nowadays with rich business owners coming in has changed the football landscpae. It is no more just football it is big business with money doing the talking and pursuading.
