Why This Would Be £18m VERY Well Spent By Arsene

By on November 18, 2013

It’s been a better-than-expected season so far. We sit top of the Premier League table and also top a very tough Champions League group with two games to go, so it really couldn’t be going much better at the Emirates.

We’ve done all this whilst having to cope with a crippling injury list so with the likes of Theo Walcott, Lukas Podolski and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain still to return to the squad, you’d think we should be relatively content heading into the January transfer window.

However, I think it’s fair to say that there’s one area of the squad that certainly needs improving, and that’s up front. We are extremely thin in the striker department with Olivier Giroud currently the only viable option available to Arsene Wenger, so if we can bring in another striker in January we’ll be in excellent shape for the second half of the season.

We’ve been linked with a whole host of frontmen in recent weeks but one that really caught my eye were reports claiming we are lining up a bid for Manchester City’s Edin Dzeko.

The Bosnian international was on Wenger’s radar before he joined City from Wolfsburg in 2010 and he’s praised him in the past, so we know the boss is a fan.

The 27-year-old is struggling to secure first team football with Manuel Pellegrini opting to go with Sergio Aguero and Alvaro Negredo up front, and he’s recently voiced his concern at his lack of action in the run-up to the World Cup.

The Daily Star claim Dzeko will look for a move in January and will be available for £18m. If true, I hope we go all-out to land him as he would be a superb addition to the squad.

He has the touch and vision to play the lone role up top in Arsenal’s formation, and I actually think he a superior finisher to Giroud. He’s not got the physical presence the Frenchman has, but he more than makes up for it in other areas.

Dzeko also has vast experience in the Premiership and in Europe, so should have little trouble settling in. I really think it would be £18m well-spent if we could persuade City to sell to us.

And that brings us on to the main problem here. I think Dzeko would be up for the move but City are unlikely to favour selling to a title-rival, particularly in mid-season. The Star also claim that Borussia Dortmund are sniffing around so we will most likely face stiff competition for his services.

But fingers crossed we could get a deal done as I’d make us title favourites if we could get Dzeko on board this winter.

What do you think? Would Dzeko be a good addition?

I l’d go for Pato,he is a more clinical player than Dzeko,he is also cheaper and easier 2 get than Dzeko,he is fast and technical, but Dzeko is a similar player 2 Giroud and we dnt need wat we all ready have

Pato is talented player no doubt, but his weaky legs can’t survive Serie-A as his long series of injured before forced back home. Do you think he can handle EPL? We don’t need another injury proner do we?
I prefer Dzeko, Lewandoski, or Martinez for the job.

Pato will be a gamble. The Bosnian is proven epl quality and has the experience. The former will take time to adapt to the more physical game in England. If it pays of well and good.
If it doesn’t ,it’s back t square one. Wenger will be taking a huge gamble with the Brazilian as this season shows the gunners have a good chance of winning the title ,though it still has 5 more monthsnto go.

What a silly story that city would sell a good player to a direct title rival hakfway through the season. How do yoou get these silly ideas?? Such little logic in this story

The story was logic anyway dude, eventhough Dzeko is they current 3rd option striker. Another “logic” possibility is a swap deal of Dzeko to Lewandowski plus money, as Dortmund looking for Lewy’s replacement.

Bad option. He was an injury prone before departed from Milan. If you could’nt survive Serie-A, logically you don’t have the right physical fitness to deal with EPL.

Now l’d go for Lewandoski, now we no the Bayern deal is not concrete as Dortmund don’t really want to sell to their biggest rivals, and he has said he fancies a taste of the Premier League!
