Wenger Confirms Walcott Injury ‘Set Back’

By on October 21, 2013

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Theo Walcott has suffered ‘a little set back’ and will now be on the sidelines for a further two weeks.

The winger has been out injured for the last month after undergoing abdominal surgery on an injury picked up during the warm up before our clash with Stoke City last month.

It was initially hoped Walcott could be back in contention after the international break but it seems he had a set back last week in training with the boss confirming the 24-year-old will now be out for another two weeks. Wenger said:

‘Theo had a setback on Thursday. He had to stop, to jog again, I don’t think we will see him against Dortmund, nor Crystal Palace nor Chelsea (in the Capital One Cup). He is at least two weeks away now.’

It means Theo will miss tomorrow nights crucial Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund as well as Saturday’s match with Crystal Palace and next weeks Capital One Cup tie with Chelsea.

There is a slight chance he could return to feature against Liverpool on November 2, but it’s more likely he’ll be back to face Manchester United the following weekend.

It’s a real blow as we could really do with his pace to stretch teams as we head into a crucial period that sees us play some huge games. Pace is less important when you play teams like Norwich who sit back, but it would have been useful to have him against the ‘bigger’ teams like Dortmund, Chelsea and Liverpool where he should have more space to exploit.

Anyway, the team is firing without him at present and hopefully that will continue to be the case over the next two weeks.

Do you think we’ll miss Walcott over the next four games? Or can we cope without him?

I will love Wenger to sign a good finisher in january and build his powerhouse in this season for silverware.
