Arsenal Told To Wait For €45m-Rated Wonderkid

By on October 8, 2013

Arsenal have been told by Schalke we’ll have to wait until at least the summer if we want to sign highly-rated German wonderkid Julian Draxler.

The 20-year-old is hot property right now after a stunning breakthrough season last year that saw him score 13 goals in 39 appearances for Schalke.

Obviously this alerted a whole host of clubs throughout Europe and we we’re strongly linked with the attacking midfielder during the final weeks of the summer transfer window.

The German club apparently demanded the full €45m it would take to trigger his release clause and we soon turned our attention to Mesut Ozil, but Wenger’s interest still remains in the exciting youngster and some reports had suggested the boss may try his luck again this January.

However, Schalke general manager Horst Heldt has insisted they will not be negotiating Draxler’s sale this winter and he’ll be with the club until the end of the season, at least.

“Julian Draxler will be at our club this season, that is for sure,”

“There will be no fuss regarding him during the January window, as he is committed to our club.” [source: Mirror]

The player himself admitted his only focus right now is playing for Schalke and will leave and talks over his future to the manager.

“I am focused on playing well for Schalke 04. All the rest is something the general manager will be worried with!” [source: Mirror]

Draxler is hardly committing his long-term to the club with this statement, it sounds more like he’s happy to keep his options open, so I’m sure there will be plenty of speculation over his future in the summer. But a move in January is extremely unlikely, particularly with Schalke on course to qualify for the knockout stages of the Champions League.

The youngster is certainly an exciting prospect and is already making his mark at the top level, despite being just 20 years of age, so I’d love to see him come to the Emirates and link up with his international team mates, Mesut Ozil, Lukas Podolski and Per Mertesacker.

But with the player under contract until 2018 and a huge buy-out fee attached to his deal, it looks like we’ll have to sit tight until Schalke decide it’s time to cash in.
