Kronke Reveals Reason Why Liverpool Refused To Sell Suarez

By on September 27, 2013

Arsenal majority shareholder Stan Kronke has done a rare interview this week and gave his thoughts on our pursuit of Liverpool striker Luis Suarez this summer.

The Uruguayan hitman went public with his desire to leave Anfield in search of Champions League football back in July but Liverpool stood firm and rejected two offers from us – including a £40,000,001 bid that was designed to test the strikers so-called buy-out clause.

As it turned out, we had been misinformed by Suarez’s agent about the release clause and the Merseysiders dug their heels in and refused to sell.

Kronke, who rarely does interviews with the British press, has claimed in an interview with the Telegraph today that he got the feeling Liverpool were determined not to sell Suarez at any price as they feared the club would “have nothing left” if the 26-year-old was sold.

“Look, Arsene Wenger had a view, our team had a view, they had a view and their view was ‘he wasn’t going anywhere’,” Kroenke told the Daily Telegraph.

“I never saw them waver from it. I guess at some level there is a number that gets anybody out of anywhere but there was nothing within the realm of what we knew about that could have got him out of there.

“There were people saying if he left there was nothing left. If people believe that, if those players believed that and John thought they believed that, then that is a real problem.”

There is always fear attached when selling a star player. We Arsenal fans should know that better than anyone. Critics had us down to finish mid-table when Fabregas left and it was a similar situation when Van Persie was sold, so we can certainly see where Liverpool are coming from to a certain extent.

But if the clubs hierarchy really believed they would have “nothing left” if they sold Suarez – as Kronke states – that’s a real problem for them. Every club is bigger than a player and Liverpool should have been confident enough in the size of their club that they would be able to survive without the controversial striker.

They coped extremely well during his recent 10-match ban and would have had a sizable kitty to re-invest in the squad, had they cashed in. They could have arguably come out of it all stronger. Just look at Spurs.

Anyway, it’s in the past now and I personally don’t see Suarez being at Liverpool next season anyway. So they were simply delaying the inevitable by keeping him against his will.

Yes we sell some of our best players, and not afraid to do so and still always on top of Liverpool on the league table and also qualify for champions league every season. And never being afraid to sell unlike Liverpool that Suarez is bigger than Liverpool when they said if they sell Suarez they have Liverpool has nothing. Look at Spurs they sold Gareth Bale and are much better team that shares the goals because they invested the money from bale wisely.

How do you know Suarez won’t be at liverpool next season? If we qualify for the champions league he might not feel the need to go anywhere, just because arsenal sell their best players because their owners and management are not strong enough to keep them don’t be bitter towards liverpool because they are, I like arsenal football club and what they stand for but the summers events did them some harm

Joker, Suarez doesn’t believe in Brendan Rogers, if Rogers is confident enough of his ability like AVB he will sell Suarez and invest the money wisely an bring in players that will contribute in goals like spurs.

Does it really need the Arsenal owner to come out with this rubbish.

Liverpool didn’t want to sell their best player to a rival in the same league, hardly rocket science and the biggest mystery of all time is it?

Move along people nothing to see here…

Joker, Arsenal sold RVP to Man U, Nasri to Man City and still qualified for champion’s league and now tops the league table. Your manager Brendan Rogers will be exposed as not good enough for the job if Suarez is sold. Remember its a team game and no player should be bigger than the club, but it seems Suarez is bigger than Liverpool

It wasn’t that there’d be “nothing left” if Liverpool sold Suarez.
    1) Arsenal waited till the transfer market was nearly over leaving Liverpool with no time to find his replacement.
    2) Arsenal finished 4th last season and Liverpool want 4th this season so selling Arsenal our best player is a ridiculous idea.
    3) Why would Liverpool sell him for £40m when everybody knows he’s worth at least £50m.

And as for Suarez leaving, it on depends on if Liverpool can finish 4th or not but if Suarez does leave next summer for what he’s worth (£50m) Liverpool will have around £70m/£80m to rebuild a better team.

By next summer, Suarez may not be worth £20M and Liverpool will not be in top four.
