Wenger Gives Injury Update On Walcott & Arteta

By on September 26, 2013

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has given a positive injury update on attacker Theo Walcott and midfielder Mikel Arteta.

Walcott was ruled out for around a month on Tuesday after it emerged he required minor surgery on an abdominal injury picked up in the warm up before the Stoke game on Sunday.

The 24-year-old underwent that procedure in Germany on Wednesday and Wenger has now confirmed it was a success and there were no complications, meaning he’s on course to return after the next international break.

Wenger told Sky Sports News:

“Walcott had surgery and it went very well. He’s coming back (from Germany) Thursday so it’s what we expected there were no complications.”

It’s always a relief to here operations, no matter how small, have been a success and they didn’t find anything more serious, so thankfully Theo should be back in time to play against Norwich on the 19th October.

It’s going to be a difficult task replacing him as we have nobody really capable of filling his boots over the next few games, but it gives the likes of Serge Gnabry and Ruo Miyaichi the chance to impress.

Meanwhile, midfielder Mikel Arteta made his first start of the season during last nights grueling encounter with West Brom in the Capital One Cup.

The Spaniard appeared to limp off during the first half of extra time and many Arsenal fans feared the worst. However, Wenger confirmed after the game that the 31-year-old was just suffering from cramp. He told Arsenal.com:

on Mikel Arteta…

He is fine, he just had cramp.

So Walcott’s surgery was a success, Arteta came through the West Brom game unscathed and we went on to progress to the fourth round of the League Cup on penalties, making it good news all round.

Next up is a tough trip to Swansea on Saturday evening, hopefully we can continue our excellent recent run.

Not looking forward to the Swansea game. Not sure how long we can keep this away record going….all good things come to an end.
They looked good against Valencia and seem to have their season up and running despite the loss last night. Hope I’m wrong!
