Madrid Man Wants To Follow Ozil To Arsenal As Wenger Eyes Rooney

By on September 16, 2013

Some interesting transfer gossip to bring you today with the Mirror reporting that Real Madrid midfielder Sami Khedira wants to follow Mesut Ozil to Arsenal while Arsene Wenger is ready to make another move for Wayne Rooney in January.

We made a sensational swoop on Madrid for Ozil on deadline day and the Mirror claim that sources in Spain have indicated that midfielder Khedira wants to follow his German team-mate to the Emirates.

Khedira was left on the bench for Madrid’s 2-2 draw away at Villarreal on Saturday night with boss Carlo Ancelotti preferring to go with Luka Modric and £32m summer signing Asier Illarramendi in the middle of the park. If he continues to be out-of-favour, you wouldn’t blame Khedira for wanting out. Whether Arsenal would be interested is another matter entirely though.

On the face of it you’d think it would be a no-brainer, but we signed Mathieu Flamini in the summer and he’s made an encouraging start to life back in north London. Plus, it seems Wenger would prefer to use his remaining transfer funds to bring in another striker when the January transfer window opens.

The Mirror claim that we have at least £40m left in the tank and Wenger will renew his interest in Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney in the winter as he looks to bring in a world class striker after failing to do so in the summer.

We were linked with Rooney throughout the summer but it seemed that if he did leave Old Trafford he would be heading to Chelsea. However, a move failed to materialise and he remained at United – despite agitating for a move in July when he claimed he was ‘angry and confused’ by David Moyes comments that suggested he was now playing second fiddle to Robin Van Persie.

It remains to be seen whether he’s patched up his differences with his new boss but the newspaper seems to think Wenger is confident he’ll be able to lure the England forward to the Emirates. Rooney has less than 18 months left to run on his current contract and his value will continue to drop the closer he gets to it’s expiration date, so United may be forced to cash in.

I personally don’t think that’s likely to happen in January though, but you just never know. Maybe Rooney will push for a move again. Who would blame him if he was desperate to play alongside the likes of Mesut Ozil?

A new striker is a MUST in January. The recent injury scare to Olivier Giroud shows just how precarious the situation up front is and we can’t rely on the Frenchman all season. Will the new hitman be Rooney? I doubt it, but he’s certainly the caliber of player we should be targetting.

    I can’t face it.

A granny-prozzie shagging Shrek-a-like egotist who is just going beyond his peak (the fags probably don’t help). One of the biggest strengths at Arsenal currently is that we have a crop of players who are committed to the team & each other. Rooney thinks about himself first & foremost so has great potential to disrupt the esprit de corp.

No thank you, there are other top strikers in the world. Let the Mancs be bled dry by his exorbitant wages.

Khedira eh? Who knows, I was not sure Ozil could come so why not. Then proper 2 DM of him and Ramsey and AM in Ozil, Wilshere and Cazorla would really require another top striker to make us a proper threat to anyone on the pitch. Hm, all this coming after Spuds transfer of Bale? Cant believe what has happened. God work in mysterious ways indeed.
