Cazorla Ruled Out Of Sunderland Game With Ankle Injury

By on September 14, 2013

It looks like we’ve been dealt yet another injury blow with news spreading that Santi Cazorla is set to miss today’s game at Sunderland with an ankle injury.

With Tomas Rosicky ruled out with a thigh injury, Per Mertesacker missing the trip through illness and new signing Mesut Ozil also a doubt after missing training on Friday – also through illness – the last thing we needed was another injury to deal with.

However, Goal journalist Wayne Veysey broke the news this morning that Cazorla was set to miss the game with an ankle injury.

Now Veysey has a pretty poor track record for his ‘exclusives’ so many Arsenal fans were taking the news with a pinch of salt but it seems he might be right on this occasion.

Well known Arsenal fan ‘Geoff Arsenal’ – who has an excellent reputation for being ‘ITK’ and has been spot on in the past, including breaking news of Nacho Monreal’s back injury – has confirmed that Cazorla has picked up an ankle problem. The good news is it’s a minor injury that should only keep him out for a matter of days.

The squad is wafer-thin with Mikel Arteta, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Lukas Podolski and Abou Diaby already missing, along with Mertesacker, Rosicky and possibly Ozil, so we’re certainly going to be stretched today.

If Cazorla is missing, the likelihood is that Monreal and Gibbs will both start down the left side but we’ll have to see what Wenger decides to do.

Every step forward we take Koscelny is there to concede a penalty and knock us back. he cost us the Villa game by conceding a penalty and he is doing it again – third rate at best and fourth rate at worst. He is simply not good enough…

He’s actually our best defender by miles and among the best in the league. Yeah today he messed up but against villa he gave away a penalty with a perfectly good tackle and ended up getting sent off without even making a foul.

Today Kos played excellent as usual. I do not believe it was a pen, Kos got the ball ! Also Atkinson had blown up,prior to the incident, therefore in the rules,he cannot award a pen. This therefore even up Sudetland’s dissalowed goal.

Even with all the injuries Arsenal were great. Ramsey was great and Ozil looks fantastic, COYG.
