Wenger’s Pre-Spurs Injury Update: Podolski, Wilshere, Ramsey & Arteta

By on August 29, 2013

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has given a team news and injury update ahead of Sunday’s clash with Tottenham and it’s a case of good news/bad news.

Let’s start with the bad news and predictably Lukas Podolski has been ruled out for longer than first feared. Wenger gave his usual ‘3 week’ prognosis after Podolski was forced off with a hamstring injury in the Fenerbache game but it turns out the injury is far worse and the German is set to be on the sidelines for 8-10 weeks.

However, there is more positive news on Wilshere and Ramsey who both also picked up knocks in midweek. The boss has confirmed they are fit to face Spurs despite a few ‘bumps and bruises’. This is a huge boost as we’d be stuffed if these two were ruled out as well.

Wenger also confirmed that Arteta is ‘a few weeks’ away from returning but captain Thomas Vermaelen could be back in contention after the international break.

Here’s what the boss told Arsenal.com:

on Aaron Ramsey and Jack Wilshere…

The news is quite positive. They just had bumps and bruises. They will be involved.

on Lukas Podolski…

It is bad news about Lukas Podolski as he will be out for eight to 10 weeks. His hamstring is much more damaged than we thought at the start. It is very disappointing and we have paid a very heavy price for that win [over Fenerbahce]. We have to be patient now.

on the more long-term injuries…

Arteta is doing OK but there are few weeks to go with him. Thomas Vermaelen could be back after the international break.

With Podolski now ruled out for the best part of 10 weeks, it heightens our need for attacking reinforcements. Unfortunately it doesn’t look like they will be signed in time to face Spurs on Sunday so we’ll be heading into the north London derby with a thread-bare squad.

The first eleven will probably be OK, but the bench is going to be packed with inexperienced kids. Not ideal.

Arsenal are just a joke of a club. They show no ambition to grow and become winners. I don’t wear or buy the kits anymore I do not buy any merchandise I don’t go to the games anymore. All because they show us fans nothing but lies. For years and years we wait… For nothing we sit back and watch Europe cup teams out spend us. Something is so very wrong at this club and I want no part of it anymore.

am so so pissed right now i wish i didn’t even watch the past 3 games we won, its like Wenger is on a mission to kill the club. all we hear in the news is we are “weighing up a bid for so and so” with 2 4 days left! its so aggrivating I dont want wenger there this season, he is an idiot of a manager and he deserves no recognition whatsoever , cos He and the entire management/board is behaving like his useless tactics and subs, late and beyond comprehension. why is erikssen still free and spurs are in for him and we are just watching they scoop every one of our targets, knowing very well one more injury will spell disaster for the club and we haven’t made a deal for him, why have we not gone in for our targets with serious respectful offers? instead we are waiting on cabaye….cabaye people! this is insane. and we are waiting on real madrid….what planet are we on?!!! di maria is wanted by Galtasaray and its now very evident that we can never out bid a compeitor cos we are so so useless at tying down a simple deal. what is wenger drinking or is it smoking? why are we the only one who can see that it will end up badly for them? why are they not desperate enough and fearful of the backlash that awaits????…am serious, why havent they made plan B??? to atleast secure affordable realistic deals for the likes of kondogbia, michu, julio caesar and fellani?? why is it so so so difficult to go and tie down a player you need, what is 17mil for kongogbia or 20mil fellani or 20 mil for cabaye or a mere 15mil for erikssen(who bergkamp recommended 5yrs ago) at such a time as this???/… why is wenger and his idiots of a management board not showing the desperation they need when spurs who clearly have shown?? its pathetic that Arteta is hoping for a signing, imagine that even our own players are hoping for not the 5 that we need but 1! 1 major signing..its pathetic… i hope spurs give us an 8-2 cos i see an inevitable panic buy again…i hear gareth barry has been linked…YUUKKKH!

Total bilge. I am not happy that we have so far not signed a marquee player, but it will come. I have more faith than you.

Wenger is a failure pop and plain.. I find it unbelievably stressful to fathom why some fans still offer their priceless and overwhelming support to someone who clearly dons’t deserve a quater of it, the earlier we realise we have a standout failure as a manager the better our chances of accepting what ever arises without much surprise
