Arsenal Set Announce Second Signing Of The Summer, Unfortunately For Us It’s Mathieu Flamini

By on August 22, 2013

Arsenal are set to announce their second signing of the summer with the free acquisition of former midfielder Mathieu Flamini, according to reports tonight.

The Frenchman made an acrimonious exit from the Emirates back in 2008 after turning down a contract extension in favour of making a free transfer move to AC Milan.  His time in Italy didn’t go according to plan though and he was largely used as a utility player during his time at the San Siro.

His contract expired this summer and with Milan only offering him a 12-month deal, Flamini decided to find another club and has been training back at Arsenal these past two weeks.

Many Gooners joked that he would be our new ‘top, top, top quality’ midfielder and it seems those jokes are about to come to fruition with the Daily Mail claiming we’re close to agreeing a deal to re-sign him.

There’s no doubt our need for midfield reinforcements is clear, especially since Mikel Arteta and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain picked up injuries, but I’ll be pretty pissed off if Flamini is our only midfield signing this summer.

Amid all the talk of big-money bids for Bender, Gustavo and Cabaye, to end up with Flamini on a free would be a gutting. Don’t get me wrong, I have no problem in him returning as a utility player. He’ll be a useful addition as he can play in a variety of positions, but don’t tell me there is nobody out there better than Flamini that we could buy?!

The 29-year-old could come straight into the squad if he’s registered by 12pm on Friday, but hopefully his signature will be followed by some ‘proper’ signings.

How do you feel about Flamini’s return?

He’s still a good player… but I’d be more eager to see him if we still had Fabregas as they had a good understanding.

Predictably tons of fans will think he was out of order for not signing an extension… but as far as I understand he was asking for that extension for ages and was told to shut up, then when he had a good run in the 1st team and thats when Arsenal wanted to talk about the extension and he snuffed it… understandable, specially as he went to play for the team his dad supports.

If he still has the same engine he had before we will need him.

He only had a good season as he knew he was off at the end of it, just like RVP. Wenger out.

This report if true shows just how low the depth we sank in such a very short period, from being invincible to being very visible to even bilateral blind men.Oh Wenger, where did you lose it all?

we’ve been crying out for a holding midfielder, here he is! As long as we sign, 2 centre backs, a winger and a forward then its a great signing

Another freebie. What is happening at our once great club? Is anyone protesting? Did anyone watch him those years ago. He is NOT the solution. Wenger is truly mad if he does this. I think it is hype because even Wenger is not that stupid. I don’t believe Wenger has sunk that low.

He is a great addition. He has the experience and is versatile. If he signs then we need just one more midfielder.

He has been Arsenal’s best defensive midfielder since Vieira. Far better than Gilberto.
Just hope he has retained his energy 13k per game…

He is neither new to the tactics of the coach nor EPL. He is more useful than cabaye and more experienced; injury plagued his career at milan and we didn’t give him the treatment he deserved..We have a great manager in arsene cos all our ex players still want to come back and play for us..flamini is more experienced than lars bender and more tactically sound than kondogbia…He is in the mould of prilo but with a lit bit of ruggedity..Good one prof but our new striker must be a world class

It ok! I’m very happy for arsenal if they can sign flamini becos his very strong midfielder, he can play as a block 4. Since when song hav left arsenal to baka, we hav not see a real bloct 4. Flamini we do it for u. You ar welcome to arsenal.

He would be a pretty good signing and add some depth and to our “paper thin” squad. Not a seismic signing but decent one.

I will not be taking this news of flamini coming back to arsenal very easy. As for me, everything is wrong with it. This man called wenger should have seen the vulnerability in this current arsenal team. We need young top quality players who are hungry for glories, trophies and top honours. Why is this man always bent on bringing players who have are tired of playing football and no longer needed by their former employers? Why is he always bringing pensioneers into the club? We need players who are hungry for trophies. Flamini has won many trophies under various clubs he has played, so now he may now play football for fun and may not really care if he wins trophy or not. Flamini is not bad but this man called wenger should look for younger established players and probably play flamini as a subtitute player

Is this guy serious, when arsene bring in young players there is an uproar, 2 much young players they r for the future we want players who can help us win trophies now, now we want to resign flamini and u complain. get ur fact straight, u name me one player who arsene have brought in who r tired of playing football and is no longer needed by their former employers. I am just tired of u so called arsenal fans who always try to malign the club, give us a break u lackey

Flamini is just a continuation of Wenger trying to prove he know everybody else wrong. if he was that good would Milan let go free? think not. Wenger talks about top top qualidee and sign Flamini and sonogo? I mean seriously?

Wenger is seriously p@ssing me off. He’s continuously looking for what he can get for free, or next to nothing. He’s becoming worse than ‘arry, but at least ‘arry gets it right on the old “cheapos” the majority of the time. Wenger has had the opportuniy to buy real quality, but has turned his back on them to look at players that are of no use to us now, eg, Sanogo. Look how quick that deal was done. The end of the season, and he’d signed Sanogo, an unknown kid from the French second division who is injury prone, and not likely to break into the side anytime soon. We should have had our targets spotted and brought in before Arsenal went on that pointless far east jaunt so as to bed the new players in before the start of the season. This season is going to be a carbon copy of the last few seasons, and we’ll end up buying from the bottom of the pile again. My worst fear is, the spuds are going to end up above us come the seasons end. And that is just too much for me to take in now. I say, kick Kroenke and his pathetic board out, and bring in a man that wants to spend and take us back to our former glories. Bring in Usmanov with David Dein doing the work he used to do, and that is convincing world class players coming to our club again. But we have to get rid of Kroenke, as he’ll just squeaze the lifeblood out of Arsenal if he remains!!!

      August 22, 2013 at 9:02 pm

It was David Dein that never gave Flamini a new contract..

It was David Dein that sold out to Fizsman who sold to Silent Stan.

It was Dein who then bought in Uzmanov.

It was Dein’s son that helped take Henry and Fabregas away.

      Oh the great David Dein..

        August 22, 2013 at 10:28 pm

Dein sold to Fizsman ?, where did you get that from. That is an untruth

Fiszman bought into Arsenal Football Club and became a board member through his purchase of an 8% stake from his friend David Dein, starting with 10,000 shares in 1991.[5] Fiszman slowly increased his stake to 24%, the largest shareholder as at 27 September 2007,[6] at which point he led the building of the new Ashburton Grove stadium.

I’m happy enough with Flamini coming as its on a free. Don’t think he will be getting huge wages either. He will be a useful addition. Not going to pull up trees but never the less he will be an asset to providing protection to our back 4 if need be.
Of course I’m still wanting Wenger to start shopping at Harrords and time is running out so get your arse into gear Arsene!

As i read the article,my bloodpressure has risen to a million over a million,Flamini is a decent short term assasin, but we need long term warrior in the DM at the moment, arsene do need to spend a decent £100,get real players who can give us a fighting chance at the tittle.

The point is the club has become a shameless parasite on the fans’ backs. Massive boycott is the only solution, Usmanov in.

Personally, i’ll prefer to have him back for a gamble, cos i dont think wenger is serious enough to spend money on players as he’s undervaluing all players along his path. For me, i can never trust wenger’s words anymore bcos he keeps on lying. I so much need a dm in that midfield.
