Report: Arsenal Set To ‘Gazump’ Man Utd’s Fellaini Bid

By on August 20, 2013

Arsenal are ready to try and gazump Manchester United’s move for Everton midfielder Marouane Fellaini, according to reports on Tuesday night.

United saw a £28m double bid for Fellaini and left-back Leighton Baines rejected on Monday, with the Toffees describing the offer as ‘derisory and insulting’.

Hard to argue with that considering they valued Fellaini at just £16m, two weeks after his £23m buy-out clause expired, while they placed a £12m bid on Baines’s head having already had a bid for the same amount rejected earlier in the summer.

It remains to be seen wether David Moyes will go back in with an improved bid, but the Express and the Manchester Evening News are both reporting that Arsenal are set to reignite their interest and make a late push to try and take the Belgian international to the Emirates Stadium having shown a passing interest in the player back in June.

It’s believed that a bid in the region of £20m may be enough to force Everton in to a sale, with Fellaini understood to be keen on joining a club that can offer Champions League football.

It’s clear we’re looking to add to our midfield options before the window closes following injuries to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mikel Arteta, with reports linking us with bids for the likes of Yohan Cabaye, Paul Pogba and Geoffrey Kondogbia in recent days, so it wouldn’t be a huge surprise if Wenger made a move for Fellaini.

The giant Belgian would be a superb addition as he’s exactly the type of powerful presence we’ve missed in midfield. If Arsene thinks he can beat United to his signature, I’d love to see us pull it off, but I’m not convinced Fellaini would chose us over linking up with Moyes again at the Champions.

The only hope I think we’ve got is that United refuse to meet Everton’s asking price and we’re prepared to do so, but I’m not holding my breath on that one considering the size of bids we’ve been tabling recently (£10m for Cabaye!?).

If we really want Fellaini, let’s table an £20m bid, show we’re serious and see how Everton respond.

Would you like to see Fellaini sign for Arsenal?

Arsenal won’t sign anyone apart from an 18 year old nobody on a free and they will finish below liverpool and tottenham in 6th position.I mean be realistic you deluded supporters cos spurs are gonna get willian, lamela and coentrao and they’ve already bought paulinhio, chadli and soldado so even wen bale goes they have a way better team. You onlyhave cazorla and wilshere

We’re going round in circles here. We could and should have signed Fellaini in June. Nothing makes me believe this article is anything other than a load of rehashed bollocks

you have to realise that the spuds are starting from a scratch with some incredibly useless players, that’s why they are buying so many. even though the arse are not buying yet they still have better than what the the chicken on a basketball have to offer

Arsenal are the laughing stock of the prem?
Everton haven’t won anything since 93′! And we came 4th without expensive players. We play football as it should be, not buying in all the best. Scout ’em out, and get ’em. Look at Wilshere, ah what a player

We have no depth in the squad – what we need is a subs bench that is challenging the first team. We have no challengers to per, koscielny, Gibbs, Sagna, schezny, or upfront to Giroud. Even in midfield after you name Walcott, Wiltshire, arteta, ox and podolski who is challenging??? Rosicky and? We need Cesar, Fellini and one of Suarez/Rooney/Michu as a minimum but preferably a versatile defender as well. Oh how I wish lady Bracewell sold to Usmanov instead of Stan – not just for his investment in the club but mainly because it would have meant David Dien would still be there – he was a transfer window maestro – he dealt with all the transfer dealings and let Arsene coach the team. Those were the good old days…

Well said. My guess is the problem stems from our success in 2002 and 2004. Fans got big headed and are now acting like spoiled children. Of course, it’s the spoiled children that shout the loudest but for some reason the media absolutely love to hate Arsenal. Difficult times but however badly things go, Arsenal for life! <3

      Don’t you mean:

Everton haven’t won anything since 95′! And we came 4th with the most expensive season tickets in Europe. Whether or not we play football as it should be played is subjective, but in any case it’s not been winning football for almost a decade now. Scout ‘em out, and get ‘em. Look at Wilshere, ah what a player, despite suffering quite badly from little man syndrome. Ross Barkley will turn out to be better, though.

You’re an idiot! Ross Barkley? Why? Because he scored one good goal :L he turns up when he wants. Wilshere Is the future of English football, you’re deluded to think otherwise!

Turns up when he wants? He never got a look in under Moyes. Whilshire is not the future of English football

Your right mate. Barkleys been a star in waiting for a while, moyes just cant deal with top talent. Wiltshire is a top talent also, but chocodaddy clearly doesn’t know what he’s on about with those views on Barkley.

The views of all the top players/pundits are wiltshire and barkely r both class.

The future of english football is bleak eitherway so i wouldnt be too proud of that chocodaddy.

Wiltshire is overrated. He’s good but not great. Plenty of young Spanish and German talent I’d trade him for in a second. I’m fine with not spending ridiculous amounts for Rooney and Suarez etc. but I’m not fine with not spending. We offer half the asking price and act like they should be happy to give the player to us. Not everyone’s Malaga. Got lucky with them. I’d love to have offered 20-25 mil for players like Gandogan, Reus, Ericsson, bender, Pogba. Should have gotten Fellaini early. He’d be great for us, the strong DM we need who can also score. The thing is I don’t think we play that beautiful anymore. We don’t have the creativity to do what we used to. Yes we can possess but be don’t dive through teams in the box like we did with Cesc, Famini, and Hleb. Watch Dortmond. I want us to play like them. We can with a few great signings. I thought we’d start it this summer and continue it next summer but I was wrong. I don’t understand. Was he trying to offer as little as possible to maximize the number of players? But when he saw it didn’t work wouldn’t it be better to get somebody good rather than no one. Now all we have to choose from is second rate.

Hmmmmm just few hours after bidding for cabaye, and enquired about kondogbia we want to bid for fellaini too? Dosn’t sound like wenger to me, but i wouldn’t think twice to ditch kondogbia’s pursuit that would cost us £17.2m and just add an extra £3m and hand over to everton for fellaini

the Spuds have a director of football who has worked at Real Madrid, he knows how to close deals. We have a PR machine who know how to spin deals which all end the in the same fashion. With us running scared at an extra 2 or 3 mil, even when we openly boast about having a massive transfer kitty.

I’ll be at Fulham on Saturday, I fully expect us to beat there too

All rumour. I don’t understand afc anymore. The seem to be more interested in making money. I have never had faith in kronke. Doesn’t look the part;doesn’t act the part. He should leave afc with his brother Gazidis.

Fellani will more than likely stay with us as neither Arsenal or Man U have managers with a good record on paying the right price or getting deals done. Having watched Chelsea and Man City I think one of them will win the title with Man U 3rd and Spurs a likely 4th.

We need several players with a striker, winger, midfielder, goalkeeper and two defenders needed.

In goal I would go for Julio Cesar to take over the no.1 role and work with Szczesny. If we went the youth route Stegen is the future, we were mad not to go for Butland.

In defence Sakho and Richards would be good signings with them both adept at playing centrally or as fullbacks. Rami is a possibility with Umtiti or L.Zouma good youth signings. Could always go for Shaw and teach him to play central too.

Fellaini would be my choice in midfield offering more of a physical presence then Cabaye. Pogba and Kondogbia are at the same level both would add to midfield. I would like us to snap up Will Hughes to bring through in a few years.

Not many top wingers around Bernard would have been great for us. Best availiable looks like Thauvin or Vadillo although im sure Liverpool would love us going for Sterling 🙂

Well Suarez seems like our target but don’t see it happening. His advisors fed us bad info on his clauses and looks like we burned a few bridges. That said we never broke the news, the papers and then Liverpool confirmed all, im sure we would have preferred it in the shadows. Could always go for Lukaku or Dzeko !?
