Arsenal Linked With Richards & Juanfran

By on August 19, 2013

Arsenal have renewed their interest in Manchester City defender Micah Richards and are also keen on Atletico Madrid’s Juanfran, according to reports.

Boss Arsene Wenger is said to be keen on bringing in a right-sided defender before the window closes and Richard’s is seen as the perfect candidate. We’ve been linked with the 25-year-old several times in the past and the Mirror claim the club have revived their interest over the past week or so ahead of a potential bid.

Richards has struggled to establish himself as a first team regular at the Etihad Stadium and while injuries have restricted him over the past 18 months, he could be open to a move in order to boost his chances of breaking back into the England set up ahead of next summers World Cup.

He has just two years left on his current deal and there has been no sign of an extension being offered any time soon, so perhaps City may be open to cashing in if the bid is right.

I’d personally love to see Richards come to the Emirates this summer and would take him in a heartbeat over Ashley Williams due to his versatility. Our need for reinforcements at the back are clear for all to see and the Mirror claim we’ve also identified Atletico Madrid’s Juanfran as a possible alternative.

He’s a bit too attack-minded for my liking and fear he could get exposed at the back, so I’d prefer Richard’s out of the two.

Micah is a Gooner aswell so would love to see him join! Plus he can play RB and CB and in a couple of years when Sagna gets too old…it can be Micah and Jenko fighting it out for RB…

IMO we need 8 defenders in the squad, minimum and I am not including under 21s like jenkinson in that. Therefore a right back and a centre back are required preferably a right back like Richards who can play centre back and a centre back like sakho who can play left back if needed

Trouble is when it comes to a choice Wenger will always choose the cheaper option.

from the time i was young i have always loved arsenal coz of the flair they used to put on the pitch, my colleagues are very right with their opinions but i also say, much as we want players, do you enjoy the way arsenal plays or we want to win the game the urgly way? ok all injuries and we had bernard at our disposal but sturbonly our man (wenger) said rubbish i know how to handle my fans, they only want to see new faces. i don’t know how this professor sees things nowadays coz football is dynamic, you must please the people who make you rich at the end of every week, how do you milk a cow you don’t feed and expect 1000 litres of milk every day? big clubs lure good players , win trophies increase on the number of supporters/fans but arsenal’s case, its the opposite.
