Rodgers: “Suarez Is Happy And Understands Liverpool’s Point Of View”

By on July 31, 2013

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has been speaking about the Luis Suarez situation and has told the Liverpool Echo that the striker is happy, understands the clubs point of view and is training well ahead of the new season.

The local newspaper also claims that Rodgers admitted “every player has his price”, refused to guarantee Suarez would still be at the club when the transfer window shuts and the Northern Irishman is also believed to have drawn up a list of potential replacements – although the newspaper fails to provide any quotes, preferring to add the claim within the content.

Going by that information, it very-much sounds as though the Merseysiders are resigned to losing Suarez this summer. However, the Liverpool Echo decided to concentrate their story on quotes which suggest the striker is settled at Anfield and is not agitating for a move away.

They quote Rodgers as saying Suarez is “happy” and “totally understands the club’s point of view”, before he goes on to praise how the striker is working hard to be fit ahead of the new season. Here’s a full run-through of his quotes:

“It’s a story that can keep running but for me there is no new news. Luis is happy. He totally understands the club’s point of view.

“He’s in a difficult position in terms of not being able to play because of his suspension. He will sit out the first six games and he will miss playing football.

“But he’s working hard and remains part of the group. He needs to get up to speed and we will continue to work to get all the players ready for the first game of the season.”

“It could have unsettled them [the squad] but it hasn’t,”

“It’s two fold really. Firstly, it says a lot about their professionalism. The environment that we’re creating is that the star will always be the team.

“We want to have top players here. But if for whatever reason we don’t, we will always know we can rely on the team and each other.

“Secondly, it’s also testament to Luis. He hasn’t been moping about.

“It’s obviously difficult when you come back after a break, but he has settled in and has been working well.

“The harmony in the group is very good. The spirit is strong. Right across the club there is a one club mentality.

“If we can keep it that way we can have a great season.”

It’s not surprising that a local Liverpool newspaper has decided to put a positive spin on the Luis Suarez saga and omit quotes from Rodgers that suggests they might be open to selling, but I think we all know what’s going on now.

Having already seen two bids rejected for the Uruguayan this summer, Arsenal are weighing up their next move after the confussion surrounding the players ‘buy-out’ clause. We were led to believe by the strikers advisers that a bid of over £40m would automatically trigger his release clause, but that proved to be false information and we now face having to pay upward of £50m if we want to sign him this summer.

If we really want to make a statement, we need to table a £50m bid and see what Liverpool are made of. If they want to keep hold of a disgruntled player and turn down £50m, then so be it. Let’s move on to another target. Over to you Arsene…..

Do you think Arsenal should pay £50m for Suarez? Or will he bring too much baggage?

at last a gooner that actually understands (miracles do actualyl happen) – yes, we would much much much rather sell rat boy to Real Madrid for a reduced fee. Even £30m and we’ve made a prfit, but the icing on the cake is that you muppets at the emirates do not get him.

Seeing as you have woken up and smelt the coffee, why don’t you educate your deluded comrades?

For the up-tenth time, Wenger wasn’t, & isn’t going to buy any proven striker or player. If he wanted to, he would have bought Higuain whom he apparently never even bade for.
Its same old crap of a story – “we will only add quality players if we find them” (as if Neymar, Cavani, Tevez, Higuain, Jovetic, Villa, etc are not quality). Those who are serious in buying good players don’t add £1. I’m an AFC fan & I do not delude myself of seeing Suarez playing for us next season. Until the current board is overhauled with people in the mould of Dein on board, top 4 finish will continue to be our best achievement. Peace!
