Arsenal Agree Five-Year Deal Worth £150k-Per-Week With Luis Suarez

By on July 24, 2013

Arsenal’s move for Luis Suarez gathered pace on Tuesday night after we submitted a formal £40m + £1 offer to activate a clause in the strikers contract. While Liverpool have rejected the bid, they were duty-bound to inform the player of our interest and gave him permission to hold talks with us.

It seems those talks have been swift as the Daily Mail are reporting that we’ve already agreed terms with the striker, with a five-year contract worth £150,000-a-week agreed in principal. In all likelihood, terms were probably already agreed weeks ago but ‘officially’ we shouldn’t have been discussing such matters until we were given permission from Liverpool. Unfortunately this is just how modern day transfers work.

All that remains is to find an agreement with Liverpool. That’s clearly going to be the difficult part as the Merseysiders are determined to hang on to the Uruguayan hitman and have hinted it will take upward of £55m to persuade them to sell. I really don’t see Arsenal paying that much so it looks like the player may have to force a move.

This is why bidding £1 over £40m was necessary. I think all we wanted was the official go-ahead to be able to hold talks with Suarez so we could try and persuade him to hand in a transfer request in the hope that Liverpool would then lower their demands.

There has also been the suggestion in the Guardian that Arsenal were lead to believe that bidding anything above £40m would act as a buy-out clause. The newspaper claims that legal proceedings could now follow if we feel we have a strong enough case and the exact wording of Suarez’s contract will now be scrutinised over.

I really hope we can avoid any form of legal proceedings as that’s sure to be a long, drawn-out affair that won’t be good for anyone.

So the ball now looks to be in Suarez’s court. I don’t see us paying what Liverpool want as it stands so the striker is going to have to force a move or hand in a transfer request to bring the asking price down. The big problem we face is that should Suarez refuse to do so, we’re going to be left in a tricky situation.

Gonzalo Higuain looks like his move to Napoli is almost complete and not only does this mean we’ve missed out on a potential target, but it also means Real Madrid will be armed with the funds they need to make a move for Suarez. I think it’s safe to say the striker, and Liverpool, would favour a move to the Spanish capital so it could all end very badly for us if Carlo Ancelotti decides to enter the bidding.

Fingers crossed they go all-out for Gareth Bale and leave us with a free run at Suarez, otherwise we could be in trouble and that marquee striker could elude us once again this summer.

What, just like we agreed personal terms with Higuain?! Why do people report this drivel. WE CAN’T AGREE ANYTHING UNTIL THE SELLING CLUB HAS AGREED TO SELL, OTHERWISE IT WOULD BE “TAPPING UP”!

Just ‘cos the Daily Mail reports it doesn’t mean it’s true!

    • Millz

      July 24, 2013 at 9:18 am

Stinks of hypocrisy – do Liverpool have more ambition than Arsenal then? If they don’t then Suarez is moving to a club with more ambition than his current one. If they do then they have failed miserably in recent years! Either way it shows how far Liverpool have fallen in recent times.

        July 24, 2013 at 9:38 am

Since 2006 arsenal 0 Birmingham won final and nothing since
Since 2006 lpool cl final , fa cup won , carling cup won, fa cup final
So after all the Chitta chatta , on this record Suarez will be 33 and won nothing if he signs for arsenal. Stay with the big club or sign for Madrid an lets all laugh at arsenal fans come end of transfer window when they have got another gervinho , podolski, Giroud, bendtner dream on gone,rs

        • Millz

          July 24, 2013 at 10:42 am

So basically you won the carling cup and FA cup. Bravo *clap* *clap* *clap* *clap*. You count finals as achievements? Take a look at arsenal over the last 8 years then. We’ve made 4 finals, however, we don’t class that as an achievement like you boys clearly do.

It’s funny to see so many Arsenal supporters thinking that they’re coming close to signing Suarez yet.Liverpool are in no way forced to sell plus neither the club nor its owners (Look at John Henry’s twitter) want to sell him, realistically the only way you lot are going to sign him if he hands in a FORMAL transfer request and you offer upwards of £50m,and don’t forget Madrid are probably going to have a go at getting him later on in the window….and to start with it’s the daily mail reporting it,after you read that you should know better then to even give it time of day.

Arsenal are now far bigger than you now and even though you would never admit that is klls you, Everton are bigger than you now as well! haha how far you lot have fallen. Even thursday nights on C5 is beyond you now and you know it. Suarez or no Suarez, we still have other class players and a great stadium and financial setup without having to rely on cheating shareholders to buy us players. You lot are actually even more of a joke than first apparent, you have the same setup as chelsea and city yet you still fail! Dear oh dear. Don’t know why ur laughing then, that means he definitely doesn’t wanna stay in Scouse land! Keep laughing u obviously don’t realise what is happening to ur once upon a time great club. Uve got no money nor can u offer CL so how r u gonna attract big players? My friend u don’t realise but uve now become the new Arsenal! U need to build a new Stadium so u r gonna be even more cash strapped so u gonna have to rely on youth just like we did. Did u really think we were doing it for fun or actually sticking to a tight plan? Anyway u guys are right, at least u have ur history!!!!!!

Once we our team is totally debt free our wage structure will change meaning we’ll be able to hang on to our good players whilst u’ll be struggling to hold on to urs. I’ll say it again u ain’t got no money, your only hope is CL & right now you have to battle it out for 4th with Arsenal & Tottenham, who unfortunately for you are better in the league than u!!!!! Keep ur history, I’ll look forward to the future we r building!!!!! You’ll Never Win Again! You were worthy champions in the 80s but ur time has come & gone!

Greatness ofa FC is measured in terms of; achievments, consistency, stability, financial credibility, productivity and efficiency.
