Man Utd Make €30m Fabregas Bid – Arsenal’s £25m Buy-Back Clause Activated?

By on July 15, 2013

According to reports today, Manchester United have tabled a €30m (£25.9) bid for former Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas – which may have triggered our £25m buy-back clause.

The champions are still smarting after seeing Thiago Alcantara snub them in favour of a move to Bayern Munich and it seems they’ve wasted little time in moving on to other targets, with several media outlets reporting they’ve submitted a formal offer for Fabregas today.

The majority of papers are going along with Spanish journalists Guillem Balague in claiming the offer is €30m (£25.9) but Sky Sports News seems to think it’s nearer £35m.

What also remains unclear is our supposed buy-back clause and how it comes into effect. Some are suggesting it’s a simple first refusal clause that means we have first dibs if Barcelona decide to sell or the player asks to leave, and only we can buy him for a fixed price of £25m.

Others say that we can only buy Cesc back for the fixed fee of £25m if another club submits an offer, in which case United could have done us a favour. While others are claiming the clause will only be triggered if Fabregas asks to leave for Arsenal. If he didn’t specifically request a move to the Emirates, then any other club could agree a deal with Barcelona and sign him and there’s nothing we could do about it. This seems highly unlikely to me and I’ve never heard of a clause like this before, but you never know.

Many newspapers are also reporting that Fabregas is unhappy in Spain due to his lack of playing time and regular starts in midfield, but this goes against everything the player himself stated only a few weeks ago:

“I’ve always said that I’m happy at Barca,” he said. “Whoever says that I’m leaving doesn’t know me and has never spoken with me.

“Nor with my agent, because he knows that I don’t want him to talk with other people about me. I’m very private and I don’t even talk about these things with my family.

“If someone says anything that isn’t that I want to play at Barca, it’s completely absurd.” Fabregas is quoted as saying by the Telegraph

Despite the fact there is a World Cup next summer and Cesc will no doubt be keen to secure more first team football, I still don’t see him leaving Barcelona this summer. And even if he did, I think there’s only one club he’d play for in the Premier League and it sure ain’t United.

Do you think Fabregas will leave and if so, would he sign for United?

but if reports are to be believed, there is also a sell-on clause as well as a buy-back clause.

if Arsenal decide not to buy they get a share of the profits, which means Barca have to sell for more to get what they want!

RVP is a mercenary same thing Nasri.Don’t even compare them to Fabregas cos loyalty is a virtue that Fabregas has in abundance. Beside he is in regular contact with Wenger. It is not surprise that the jersey number 4 has been reserve for him.If he decide to leave he is Emirate stadium bound. You can take my word to the bank
Moyes and United please look else where

I’m a gooner and would be devastated! I’d like to think Cesc loves Arsenal way too much to sign for Man Utd BUT I don’t think we can even trust Cesc Fabregas!!! Players nowadays have no loyalty and are selfish! What if he wanted to leave Arsenal anyways and the boyhood club fantasy was a convenient excuse?
I guess if he moves to Man Utd then will prove he doesn’t care for the Arsenal! Would hurt way much more than cashley cole, na$ri and van pursestrings disloyalty put together!! At least those 3 are c*nts! So doesn’t hurt as much knowing they are scumbags and don’t deserve to wear the Arsenal shirt but CESC!??!?! Aww man!! He was a hero!! Almost as much as Thierry! So Cesc like Henry left with our blessing!
I think its wishful thinking tho that this is a good thing for Arsenal!!! Why would Man Utd waste time putting together a bid for Cesc if they have no chance of signing him?? There are some positives though…we have money, the 1st refusal thing, we haven’t signed anyone yet and if we were after Fellaini then that means we are looking for a midfielder! So must mean we have room for Cesc! Also Barca paid £35m so why would they sell him for less than they paid for him?? So Man Utd will need to pay at least £35m for him! and i hope he loves Arsenal and is loyal! Just imagine if he came out and said, im flattered with the bid from United but I only have 2 footballing homes – Barca and Arsenal!! Would be even more of a legend! If we did re-sign him then all the wenger-haters would love wenger again! (because the haters are pathetic and idiots! so thats the way they work! losers!!), also there is a nice little Spanish connection at Arsenal now…Arteta, Cazorla, Monreal and 3/4 in the reserves/youths so he’d have that to look forward to! Plus what if he came back and helped us finally win something! He would be in the tip 10 hero’s ever! but like i say..wishful thinking! Man Utd bidding for him is serious and they wont bid for him if they dont think they can sign him!! so fellow gooners, be prepared to have another ex-arsenal player turned absolute scumbag! sad times but oh well! at least we have snati and jack! so dont actually need cesc! but still not good!! 🙁

Well, ManU seemed to me have got new recipe for they success: sign the ex Arsenal captain.
They ain’t gonna be. That’s for sure. But for Cesc, he might need to change his though right now. Xavi is the real old runner machine of tiki taka, who Cesc doesn’t exactly replace for. Alcantara, the second deputy of Xavi has gone to follow Pep. Smart move for the youngster. Suddenly the childhood dream club is broken. Cesc got his lost silverwares for sure (only CL thropy still miss), but did he got fullfilled his ultimate passion of football, the main reason he keep pass the ball? Deep down inside I don’t think he get it. Cesc might need more time to figure this out, he’ll have much time to think it from the bench. And I hope that’ll behappen on next january. Till then let’s hope that old Xavi runs his best for Barca as long as the newcomer Neymar. So, Cesc can accelerate his mind to us once again.
