Bids Rejected For Bender & Capoue, So Wenger Turns To This Man?!

By on July 10, 2013

Some distressing news today Arsenal fans with widespread reports suggesting Arsene Wenger’s interest in Manchester City midfielder Gareth Barry is genuine!

I saw some reports last week claiming we were interested but I chose to ignore them, hoping it was just ‘Silly Season’ in full swing. However, the Telegraph are one of several more reputable papers who’re saying that Wenger really IS in for the 32-year-old this summer.

Apparently we’ve already held advanced talks with both City and the player with a view to completing a £4m deal. They say that the boss has switched his attention to Barry after seeing bids for both Lars Bender and Etienne Capoue turned down this summer, and the City man is seen as a good short-term option as we look for central midfield cover.

If true, this is staggering. How could we go from tabling a £20m bid for one of the most promising midfielders in Europe (Bender), to trying to sign a washed-up has-been who’s legs went over two years ago (Barry)!?

We thought the signing of Silvestre five years ago was desperate but signing Barry would be another level entirely. Particularly given the fact we HAVE money to spend this summer. Wenger was forgiven for bringing in Silvestre in 2008 as things were tight back then, but there really is no excuse from scrapping the bottom of the barrel again this summer.

Surely, with all the talk of £70m warchests and us finally opening the purse strings to bring in top quality players, we should be aiming a little higher than Gareth f*cking Barry?!

I would honestly rather we kept hold of Coquelin and gave him a chance than sign Barry. Or even give Fimpong some game time. Let’s hope this move doesn’t happen, for several reasons…

Would you welcome the signing of Gareth Barry? Or do you think we should be aiming higher?

I am starting to get very angry with myself for extending my season ticket yet again – time is passing and transfer expectations have come to this? A fat old lump has been.

I can just see it – first match of the season and on wengers back already.

Man you are Truly a Gunner and i agree with the comment sincerely speaking i don’t like as to Sign Gareth Barry he has gone past his footballing age.his another kind of Silvester and for sure i don’t agree with Wengers thinking and philosophy coz he does things out of this world.we all well knew that Sylvester is a flop in Man U and you go a head and sign him for 750000 pounds that’s a waste of money instead get the four million and top it up on the eighteen million pounds, meet Fellainis buy out close and we are done in the midfield position.instead of bringing a failure from Man city ho is going to make Arsenal fans more disappointed.

Can’t blame you for not knowing, after all he plays for City not Arsenal. But Gareth was only just behind Zabeleta and Nastasic as Player of the Season. Sure he has some bad games like everyone else and he can look slow at times but he was a rock in midfield last season and I hope he stays. I certainly don’t want him to go to you lot ‘cos I think he will make you a better team!

Gareth Barry is a vastly underrated player by fans of teams he doesn’t play for. His lack of pace is more than made up for by his superb reading of the game. Put him in front of a well drilled defence and the goals against stats will be lower than if he wasn’t there – fact. Also, his good eye for a pass will start many a counter attack.

If he does move to Arsenal, I would ask for all those who actually go to the game, just keep an eye on him during a game and you’ll soon appreciate just how good a player he is.

You lot are a Troll’s dream.
You’ll believe anything if told it more than once.
This time is known as the silly season for a reason.. Football “Journo’s”, having nothing to write about, invent stuff to justify their jobs.. and you lot lap it up. No one ever mentions a source do they? Thats because there isn’t one!
Wise up, It’s getting embarrassing now.

Barry is the experience we need…why do people think Barry should be quicker or make 30 yard pin point passes!! That’s not what Barry does he breaks up attacks by the opposition and simple passes onto the playmakers to counter attack. And for a defensive midfielder he knocks in a few goals a season. Barry would be a good cheap signing and I would be more concerned that we are looking liking pulling another Mata cockup and losing out on Higuain and loved the real facts on Suarez bid……it was not a bid it was an enquiry as what would you say if we were to offer £30 mil for Suarez……like we would ever do that.

Fourth looks like that’s the ambition for my beloved Gooners I thank The Lord that Levi is even tighter than our lot.

    Hi
Where did you hear we had put in an offer for Capoue that had been rejected. I”ve been watching the news and not seen that one. What’s the point of a one season Gareth Barry who is now very error prone, than getting a long term player like Fellaini or Capoue. It doesn’t make sense. Barry will be Mikael Silvestre number 2.

      Hey Arsenal-Steve,

It was in the Telegraph’s article. They said we’d had bids rejected for both Bender and Capoue. I saw the Bender rumour widely reported last week but like you, haven’t seen much news regarding Capoue lately.

Wenger should resign if no top quality players r brought in by beginning of August as its the same every year we want this player or that player us arsenal fans renew memberships or season tickets in the hope of signing top talent only for some 2nd rated players come in santos park only 2 to mention now Barry while the other top 6spend on top class players
