Should Arsenal End Higuain Pursuit & Go For This £25m Striker Instead?

By on July 9, 2013

Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke has stunned the club by handing in a transfer request on Monday night. Should Arsenal be going all-out to try and land the £25m-rated striker this summer?

A striker is a MUST, no doubt about that. Many names have been linked with a move to the Emirates, none more so than Gonzalo Higuain, but with Real Madrid seemingly playing silly games should we now switch focus and concentrate on Benteke?

The giant Belgian enjoyed a stunning debut season in the Premier League – scoring 19 goals to keep Villa in the top flight – and the fact he’s proven himself in England goes massively in his favour.

How many strikers have we seen tearing it up abroad only to struggle in the Premier League? How do we know someone like Higuain wouldn’t flop here? With Benteke, we know he can cope with the rigors that come with playing in England and if anything, he’ll only get better playing in a better team filled with much better players.

Higuain’s scored 16 goals last season playing alongside the likes of Ronaldo, Ozil and Di Maria in a Madrid team that scored over 100 goals. Benteke scored 19 of Villa’s 47 goals playing with the likes of Bannan, Weimann and Delph! Just imagine what he could potentially do with Cazorla, Walcott, Wilshere, Podolski, etc supplying the bullets.

Reports are saying Villa will demand £25m for him, but they won’t get near that after he handed in a transfer request. They’ll be lucky to get £20m, they’ll probably end up accepting nearer £18m, so he’s going to be cheaper than Higuain and he’s also three years younger.

We know Tottenham and possibly Liverpool are interested, there’s talk of maybe Chelsea, while Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid have also been linked but with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang going to Dortmund and David Villa off to Madrid I’m not sure they’ll be in the market for another striker.

Don’t get me wrong, I’d still love Higuain to come to Arsenal and his pedigree is unquestioned, but we’ve been trying to tie up a deal for what feels like months now and Madrid are pissing us about big time. If we don’t make some serious headway this week I think it’s time we switched targets and Benteke would be an excellent alternative.

This is a huge week for Arsenal as we head of on our pre-season tour of Asia on Friday and if we don’t have at least one big name signing on the plane, I fear we could be in for another summer of disappointment in the transfer market. Don’t let it happen Arsene, offer Madrid £25m for Higuain and if it’s still a no-go, slap an £18m bid in for Benteke!

What do you think?? Be patient and hope we can strike a deal for Higuain, or go after Benteke?

If it’s true that Arsenal have not bid for Higuain (maybe it’s true) we should definitely go for Benteke. Problem is maybe the club are just making it look like they are bidding big for big players. Maybe they can then say how hard they tried, to sign the best, but it just did not work. Are we being duped?

    Hell ‘YES’,

He’s proven in the Premiership; loves AFC; achieved when playing with a (arguably) lesser team; gives asists; is unlikely to become homesick (Belgium!?); has the level of physicality that the EPL and AFC both require… What’s there to doubt?

If we could get him and Fellaini, I’d be very confident about the upcoming season and our future.

    Fingers tightly crossed!

    Of course,

Let’s assume we can shift Bendtner, Park and Chamahk, I’d love it if we got Benteke and Higuian!

    Oh to dream…

If Arsenal are really not the problem with Higuan but Real Madrid themselves, or the striker himself, then I would that arsenal hurriedly jettison the Argentine idea and go for any other option. No one club or player should hold the whole of Arsenal bound. No one player will ever the only known possible panacea to the Gunners’ problem.

I definitely agree. Benteke has already proved himself in EPL. Perhaps with two Belgians namely Benteke and Fellaini Arsenal will have acquitted itself well in the transfer market. It doesn’t make sense to continue this hide and seek with Higuain whom Mourinho even described as very lazy! By the way am even getting worried lest Higuain becomes another Arshavin or Tevez.

No Benteke, as had one good season with Villa he might be good next season or might not be. Higuain as had 7 good seasons at Madrid,
As for all the rubbish about his transfer coming, not coming, madrid not wanting to sell etc. I believe there as been a lot of dialouge certainly between Arsenal and the player he stated before Arsenal were invovled he want to leave in the summer so I believe this will happen .
Most of the stuff written in the last couple of weeks is at best guess work or somebody looking for more hits on their site. Also Senor Perez as is usual thro is mouth piece MARCA, is trying to up the price since Juventas dropped out, this is the usual Spanish tactics, I suppose, although I dont agree with the way it is done , You have Perez on one side trying to maximise the price and Wegner on the other side trying to keep the price down.
This transfer will happen I am sure when today, tomorrow, next week who knows it depends on if Madrid need the money or Wegner decides to give in a little but we should not be held to ransom.

A great player in Higuain was suppressed by Messi and ronaldo in national and club levels. Assistance from Cazorla, wilshere, walcott and podolski can make him 25+ scorer for Arsenal next season.
I really love Higuain in an Arsenal shirt. Arsenal must table 25£M for Higuain which will be worthy if we get him, and if Real Madrid gonna play silly games again the we can go for Bentekke with 18£M initial bid and can finalize with 20£M.
But still I love to c Higuain in Emirates. Ohh wenger go n get him for God sake.

Are we sure Arsenal FC is ready to cash in for this player called Higuain? Or they just want to deceive us that they have being trying hard to sign him but they couldn’t.
