Higuain Set For Madrid Talks With Ancelotti Keen To Keep Striker

By on July 8, 2013

Gonzalo Higuain’s protracted move to Arsenal continues to drag on with the Sun reporting today that the striker is due to hold talks with Real Madrid over his future, with boss Carlo Ancelotti still open to him staying at the club.

Last week reports claimed a move to the Emirates Stadium was close after we apparently agreed a £23m deal with Madrid and some journalists even suggested the transfer could have been concluded on Friday. However, reports emerged from Spain that claimed Madrid had suddenly upped the ante at the last minute and demanded a higher fee from us, using every dirty trick in the book.

In what’s becoming a rather tiresome transfer ‘saga’, the latest ‘twist’ is that new Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is set to meet with the striker this week to resolve his future with the Italian still open to the idea of the 25-year-old staying at the Bernabeu.

Higuain still has three years left on his Madrid contract and while the club will sell if he demands a move, Ancelotti is more than happy for him to remain and fight for his place in the Spanish capital.

While big-money moves take time and require a certain amount of patience, the whole Higuain saga is bordering on ridiculous now and the longer it goes on the more you get the feeling we’re going to be left disappointed once again.

If there is nothing official this week, I’d say the Argentine won’t be coming to north London this summer. Fingers crossed we hear something concrete in the coming days.

Do you think we’ll end up signing Higuain? Or are we set to miss out once again?

Arsenal are acting like normal people do with their financies but if they have 70 million to spend why have we not seen any quality players bought.May be they don’t have the money they are saying

Arsenal are awash with money, (and have been for some time), and cannot be blamed if they negotiate in good faith but are screwed by Real.

You get the feeling with the arsenal bids this summer that when we in the end don’t sign anyone the top brass will turn around and be like AT LEAST WE TRIED. that’s why they’re only bidding in excess of what they think the transfer should be and not what the clubs valuation is. Suarez being a prime example.

Don`t believe all you read in the papers. Next you`ll be complaining that we don`t want Gareth Barry, a made up story if there ever was one.

For God’s sake, all you bloody moaners, it’s Real Madrid messing us about. But oh no, you just can’t wait to slag off your own club, can you? You make me sick.

I agree. It is just mindless people talking the usual crap. Of course we are being messed around, and so probably is Higuain. If we really are putting in fake high bids for players we don`t really want, or know we probably can`t get, why have we only just started doing it.

Wenger stop to stress us from the beginning plz. Why are you giving 30M to Suarez and not to Higuain??????? Do you think Suarez with his bad behavior and indiscipline is better than Gonzalon???????? Ok if not Higuain pay your Jovetic or Lawnderwisky or Villa as Aubemeyang left when you were seeing him. Even Fellaini you don’t pay him. Really me I hate you WENGER I’m sorry but you make me bad and very bad

@patrick kabayiza, why should you hate on Arsene??? if u hate him, move on and may be support the tiny tots across London. the transfer window has just opened and if you are a wise follower of the gunners, what does the clear out of many fringe players at the club show to you?? let Arsene do his work as he will surely sign quality players to improve the squad.

Listen to all you experts, you all think you know best when you are all really ignorant of what goes on in a transfer negotiation. Stop acting like spoiled children who can’t get their own way. You are all very good at spending other peoples money, would you pay over the odds when buying a house or car, of course you wouldn’t so why do expect Arsenal to.

Ignorance is bliss mate. All this bollox about `no formal bid` is just that. Football transfers are conducted on a more informal basis nowadays, until the papers are finally signed.

This is a hopeless situation. We might end up with only Sanogo as the only signing despite our funny trumpet of over 70 million pounds. As it is even with Higuain signing, we might end the season outside the top four. Is Higuain the only signing that we are expecting? Why aren’t we pursuing the others such as defensive midfielder and a goal keeper while we await the Higuain saga to end?

    • Michael Staley

      July 8, 2013 at 1:40 pm

Outside the top four? Relegation candidates, I’d have thought, and likely to drop down a a lower league the season after that.

What is all this talk of “would you pay over the odds”… what did Madrid pay for Anelka when Arsenal got him for 500,000 or to think that Everton paid about 15 million to acquire Fellaini.. What then would you be expecting them to sell him for.. Arsenal always think other clubs are stupid when they shell out money but the truth is that is now the norm and they are fighting a lost battle to think other wise.. PAY UP or shut up

    • Mick

      July 8, 2013 at 2:11 pm

Answer the question, would you pay more for something than you think it is worth. No you wouldn’t, so why do you expect Arsenal to. Easy answer to that is because it is not your money. You think it is stinginess, I think it is sensible management which has resulted in the club being on such a secure financial footing. Would you rather a Portsmouth or a Leeds?

Arsenal need to be ashamed of them self if E.gonzalo where to be arsenal player we whul have been sold him since why its only arsenal use to sell his on player anyhow ? If madrid need players from arsenal they wil get it by force. But they don’t like selling to arsenal. Stil arsenal board wil never learn there lesson crazy people

    • Michael Staley

      July 8, 2013 at 2:34 pm

Arsenal have no reason to be ashamed of themselves. They are trying to buy a player, Madrid at first said “yes”, now they are changing their minds. Real Madrid have the contract. I think it’s up to the player now to decide whether he sees his future.

Obvious stuff, really. I’m surprised you can’t see it.

Get a grip stanley, you don’t know shit…the fact is the football club isn’t being run the way it should be,this isn’t the first time a potential transfer has been dragged on for weeks.juve were interested in tevez and signed him in a matter of days

          July 11, 2013 at 2:29 am

The ignorance of people like you is truly amazing. What will you say if and when we sign Higuain?

Let me tell you, IF you`ll listen. The board had a nasty shock last season, with another lucky last day. Not only that, but we scuppered the annual Wigan houdini act, thus proving you can`t keep doing it. Now, what would you do, spend serious money on top players with the possibility of even a title challenge, or faff around as usual and risk the annual £30-£40m from the CL. Kroenke is no mug, that`s why he`s still been making money in this recession when others have gone belly up. It`s perfect business sense really.
