Arsenal Handed Huge Boost In Higuain Pursuit

By on June 26, 2013

Many of us woke this morning (or you may have caught it last night if you were up late) to read the news that Juventus – Arsenal’s main rivals for the signature of Gonzalo Higuain – have agreed a deal to sign striker Carlos Tevez from Manchester City.

The Italian giants have been fighting us all the way for Higuain in recent weeks with reports on Tuesday morning claiming both clubs had agreed personal terms with the striker and it was simply up to Madrid to pick the best offer on the table. Speculation suggested that our offer was far more appealing as Juve were looking to pay a lower fee over several installments, and this was the main reason we’ve been considered as favourites to land the Argentinean.

It seems there may be some truth behind this as Juventus appear to have pulled out of the race after turning their attention to a cheaper alternative in Carlos Tevez. Sky Sports report that Juve and City officials met on Tuesday and agreed a £10m deal, and Tevez is now on his way to Turin to undergo a medical and sign a three-year contract.

With Fernando Llorente already in the bag, Juve will now have signed two new strikers this summer and with the likes of Alessandro Matri, Fabio Quagliarella and Mirko Vucinic already on the books it leaves very little room for another  front man. Therefore, Juve buying Tevez all-but ends their interest in Higuain paving the way for Arsenal to complete the signing of the prolific hitman.

Some Gooners are fearing that City may now try and sign Higuain after selling Tevez but most reports will tell you that their No.1 target is Edinson Cavani. So barring any last minute hijack attempts, it looks as though the 25-year-old will become Arsenal’s first major signing of the summer and I’ll be delighted if/when it’s officially announced. Higuian will be an excellent addition to the squad and give us a potent goal threat up front.

With Carlo Ancelotti now officially confirmed as Madrid’s new boss we can expect for the future of Higuain to be resolved one way or the other by the end of the week. Let’s hope we see him holding the Arsenal shirt on Arsenal.com soon!
