Arsenal ‘Close’ To Record Signing | Tottenham Hijack Move For £6.5m Defender

By on June 26, 2013

The Gonzalo Hiuguain to Arsenal saga has taken another step forward today Gooners with the players agent and brother, Nicolas Higuain, confirming that the striker is now close to a move to the Emirates after Juventus agreed a deal to sign Carlos Tevez from Manchester City.

We’ve been going head-to-head with the Italians for Higuain in recent weeks but as I said earlier today, with the Serie A champions now signing Tevez for £10m they no longer require another striker, paving the way for Higuain to join Arsenal.

Now the Real Madrid hitman’s brother/agent has admitted that a move to the Emirates is now ‘close’ after Juve switched their attention to Tevez as they couldn’t afford Higuain. He’s quoted in the Daily Mail as saying:

‘If Tevez joins Juve, is Higuain closer to Arsenal? I think so.

‘Juventus is a great club, but Gonzalo is too expensive for them.

‘Napoli are a strong team. Having said that, I cannot deny that Gonzalo is now close to Arsenal.’

The Argentinean is expected to cost £22m – a record fee for Arsenal – and personal terms of around £130,000-£150,000-a-week are reported to have been agreed. With Carlo Ancelotti now confirmed as Madrid’s new manager we can expect the future of Higuain to be resolved soon, and it looks like a move to Arsenal is a distinct possibility.

So hopefully we’ll have a new striker on board shortly but one player who we may ‘miss out on’ is Dinamo Zagreb defender Tin Jedvaj with reports today suggesting Tottenham are now considered favourites to sign him.

We’ve been heavily linked with the youngster in recent weeks with the players agent confirming our interest just last week, with him quoted as saying in the Metro:

Roma offered £5m, but that was rejected. Milan and Arsenal are both interested though, we expect to hear more from them.

Until yesterday he was a step away from signing with Roma, then I do not know what happened with the president of Dinamo.

It is on the basis of €5m. Roma have made this offer, you should ask the president of Dinamo how much more he asked for.

The boy is interested in coming to Rome. It is the first team that is interested, then were added Milan and Arsenal.

However, it appears our rivals have joined the chase with Sky Italia claiming that Spurs are on the verge of submitting a £6.5m bid for Jedvaj and are now considered as favourites to sign the talented centre-back due to Daniel Levy’s excellent relationship with Dinamo.

Arsenal are linked with a player and a week later Tottenham are in for him? Surely not?! Seriously, do they even have their own scouting team?? Who knows if Sky Italia’s report is accurate but we’ll have to see if the sc*m do end up getting the lad, I’m sure there’s a long way to go before that happens.

Anyway, we’ve got bigger fish to fry. Let’s wrap up Higuain and push ahead for Marouane Fellaini!

Do you think Arsenal will end up buying Higuain, or will there be a last minute hitch?

If levy has such an excellent relationship with Dinamo I think there is a chance that Spurs were already aware of Arsenal’s ‘secret player’ without the help of their rival’s scouts, who have of course always covered themselves in glory when it comes to signing defenders. The mere fact Arsenal want to sign him probably indicates he is over rated. Idiot.

rob you may prove to be the idiot yourself. its the plain truth that each time a player has been linked to Arsenal, spurs have come in for him. there are numerous examples and most of them have ended up at your scum club, hence proving the point. the two germaines are cases in point, and include palacios, that excuse of a dm who left last year. you then took adebayor, DEFENDER galas among others. luca modric was famously scouted by wenger first, plus berbatov. unless you are a spud only from this morning!

Do you think Arse are the only club with scouts? These days any half decent player is going to have loads of clubs watching them, it actually comes down to who is willing to take the plunge.

And, if you are correct, does it not worry you that all of those players chose Spurs over your lot. Bless

You scummers are so deluded. Really are. Everyone has similar targets. We wanted to sign cavani before inter. Suarez before liverpool. Arshavin before scummers. Etc etc. Stop crying

You really are stupid if you think Cavani was at Inter. If Daniel Levy has such a great connection with Dinamo why didn’t Tin’s agent confirm that Arsenal Roma and AC were interested? You cannot deny that you steal AFC scouting targets. Also why the heck are you on an Arsenal site if you know you will get a abuse?

More like reassurance than abuse. The reason for the Tottenham invasion is that your author unashamedly whored himself to newsnowtottenham by dropping the word Tottenham into his headline thereby upholding the current arse theme of being totally obsessed with all things Tottenham.

I meant Napoli. And don’t believe everything agent,s say. Surely ur not that naive ? What I’m saying to u if u can read properly is that most big clubs all scout the same players. Quality is hard to find and the demand is great. There are not that many secrets just how much people will pay. Dickhead

You really are clueless if you think Spurs just go for Arsenal targets. In football there are agents whoring their players to all clubs, so I’m sure they approached both clubs, not to mention that scouts for most clubs go visit the same teams, so no surprise if there is a good player that more than 1 club will be aware of him.
In this specific case, the 1st club that went for him was Roma, whose DoF has now moved to Spurs, therefore it is pretty obvious he will bring his target list with him & share with AVB & Levy.

So what you are saying is everytime you make an approach the player in question leaks to the media in the hope that Spurs sign him. No CL no spanking new stadium so it can only be because you are a .bunch of cnuts that nobody likes much. Even when you get lucky and Spurs reject one who goes on to prove talented, your only role in their career is to showcase them until a genuinely big ambitious club comes in for them. BTW when is your black scarf march this year? Might come along to hear you whinge – sorry – sing about wanting your arsehole back. Xxx

This is in regards to comments from sksr. While respecting his/her opinion I would be very worried in regards to what was written!
In regards to the media, they have reporters all over the world. So if clubs try and sign someone secretly, most times the transfer will get leaked. For example Brazillian international Paulihno, Spurs made a bid and within hours the story had been leaked. There were only 4 people who knew about the bid, they all said nothing to the media but within hours of the bid it was everywhere.
In regards to players who have left, well Arsenal should know more than most when players are tapped up, for example Cesc Fabregas and Robin Van Persie… There is a player at Spurs who is being touted around by the press and yes by a certain team who are tapping him up. Yes I am talking about Gareth Bale, now he is a talented player and he is staying with Spurs.
Now the thing I would be worried about if you are an Arsenal fan, yes you’ve got the Champions League and all the money that comes with it. Yes you have a new stadium! The big problem is that even with all that Arsenal only just qualified for the Champions League by 1 solitary point. Now let’s move forward 4 years, Spurs will have a new stadium and Spurs will be in the Champions League. While teams like Manchester Utd and Manchester City and Chelsea all have bottomless pits of money certain teams do not. This means they will continue to be at the top because their chairmen will spend, spend and spend some more. I have to admire Arsenal in a way as it is run like a professional football team, as are Spurs! But if you have all these things now and are only just qualifying for the champions league then surely as Spurs are bringing in better players to play alongside some very talented youngsters they will improve. Then with the new stadium this will bring more money to the club and again this will only go to make Spurs even better. The premiership is changing and when UEFA bring in the rules about clubs only been allowed to spend what they make and that the chairmen can no longer buy a championship then things will get interesting. I could then see some of the teams in the top four starting to struggle to even qualify for the Europa Cup!!! COYS

Please feel free to list the “numerous examples” along with the evidence that any of it is true. Clearly it is impossible that 2 clubs might be interested in the same players.

Anyway, back in the land of reality. We’ve just signed the Roma technical director, yet you seem unable to grasp the concept that we might now be looking at players that Roma were unable to get because Baldini was handling the negotiations. I appreciate that this is complicated, but give it a go.

Spurs don’t trust their scouter to find player but find a player when other club had already find the player, for years they had been following Arsenal with Taraabt, their current full back, ooh man too much and they even take our scouter away-Camoli and Camoli then unethically take away Arsenal scouting data away.(glad that Camoli appointment was a failure too them). Nows day they even following Liverpool, I do not know what to say but Spurs, they just don’t have the pride-credential to wear their chicken emblem.

Bottom line is ur scouts arent what they used to be. U have been fighting with spurs for fourth or third for a while now. Time to realisr that the tide is turning. . scummers are going downhill. With over double the turnover of spurs . Haha. Gazidis is laughing at u boys.

Haha rafi your hilarious, signing a player that used to play for arsenal is completly different to following your scouts around and stealing your prospects. Oh and when you say wenger was in for modric first im presuming your refering to the player that wenger famously said was too small for the premier league. Perhaps its arsenal that are following spurs scouts around shock horror.

Ok since u all blaming spurs for stealing yr targets let me ask u gooners one questions. When did u contribute a decent english youngster to england team. Like some of our spur brothers mentioned u just go across the channel and buy. We on the other hand produce good academy prospects who in fact make great contributions not only to the club but also the country. Latest being harry kane. So shut the f…k up gooners and just enjoy while it last.

Hopefully for the defence Wenger will no longer go for discards and expects the gunners to challenge.Messi was unplayable when Barcelona beat Arsenal4-1.When Chelsea played Barcelona, his threat status was reduced significantly.Chelsea then went to win the cl on penalties.Who cares about how they won.
Wenger has got to play ugly to win. Cut out the tippy tappy soccer according to Miles Palmer. Then we shall see.

Nobody can argue that the gap has been closed over the last couple of seasons.

But regardless of this the question is are Spurs trying to hijack Arsenals targets. Why not? What is wrong even if they did? Christ if I worked in the Spurs media dept every time a target of Arsenal or Chelsea or Liverpool for that matter was revelled in the press I would be tempted to give a cheeky titbit that Spurs wanted them.

Are you naive enough to think Spurs don’t have an active scouting network, or their own targets? Surely not!

But if we can snatch a player or make you spend an extra couple of mill to land them then its job done!
